Jack Mundell Obituary

Jack was born in Gothenburg, Nebraska in 1932. He grew up in an interesting era spanning the Great Depression and World War II, both of which made a lasting impression on him. He earned his BS degree in math and physics from the University of Nebraska. He enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and served in Asia and Europe, participating in the Navy's Communication Intelligence Operations against our Cold War enemies. After receiving his commission he was transferred to the Pacific Fleet, where he served on aircraft carriers and destroyers in support of operations in Vietnam and on submarines conducting covert intelligence missions. Following his retirement from active duty in 1974, he was employed for many years in the defense industry as a Senior Operations Research Analyst involved in the analysis and design of Navy shipboard command, control, and communication systems.
He was married 63 years to the love of his life, Nancy "Kay" Mundell, until her passing in 2021. He is survived by his daughter, Judy Green, son-in-law, Paul Green, and granddaughter, Lucy Flora Green.
Jack enjoyed sports, math, science, big band music, swing dancing, and swearing at his computer. He always considered himself to be very fortunate and was eternally grateful for his family, friends, and a long happy life. He and Kay will be interred with full military honors in Miramar National Cemetery.

We enjoyed having Jack and Kay at rehearsals. Kay was a lot of fun and when she began singing she was was a lovely addition. We missed them after moving to Texas. Our condolences to all loved ones at this time.

Dear Judy,
We enjoyed many evenings visiting with your mom and dad at The Red Fox. We even met you and your husband there once. Your folks were lovely and welcoming to us. We have nothing but beautiful memories. May their memories bless you and their family always. Marcia and Marty
