I remember Jim and his love of motocross. He was in my home room class and was a very nice guy. Rest in Peace, Jim.

I am just now seeing this in 2021, 14 years after his death. I had no idea he was gone. I was blessed to call this man my friend many years ago. He will never be forgotten.

I sat by Jim in homeroom and when I think of him I think of his motocross. I can still picture him in his jersey. He was a very cool guy. :)

Very sad to here of Jim's passing.
I spent a lot of time with Jim due to our love for motorcycles.
Jim was voted “Class Clown” wasn’t he?

Here are two stories from the lighter side about Jim.

Coach Testa caught Jim shooting Corn Nuts out of his nose in 10th grade. You remember, put a Corn Nut in the right nostril, plug your left nostril with your finger, close your mouth and exhale firmly and poof there goes the Corn Nut. Therefore Coach Testa called Jim “Corn Nuts” all through 10th, 11th and 12th grade. As the time went on students would ask why Coach Testa called Jim “Corn Nuts” and Coach or Jim would always explain why.

The next story I was the victim. Hey ladies, remember during Junior High P.E. when the guys would run by and every so often someone would get “pantsed”. (sp?) Well one time I was running by the girls and I felt hands grab my shorts and jock from behind so I just stopped knowing what was about to happen and avoid tripping and falling. Yes Jim succeeded in taking my shorts and jock down to my ankles!

Jim was always funny, quirky and very likeable.

To Jim's mother and sisters I send you my deepest sympathy. I was very sorry to hear the news of Jim's passing.
When I reflect back on the adventures and experiences Jim and I had together, they could fill a book and I am glad I have those memories to look back on. Although his work took him away from San Diego years ago, he would call us periodically from some remote part of the country, just to say "Hi" and let us know his current whereabouts. After a few times I learned to write his information down in pencil. His last call came in November to let us know he just moved to Texas. With each phone call we shared lots of laughter when talking about stories of the "old days". He ended every call with the words "I love you guys". I will miss those phone calls. Jim was a very dear friend.

I have many fond memories of Jim personalizing Mr Lyle's chalkboard in Biology. I believe Lyle thought it was great also. Always a crack up in homeroom. He was a rare talent and a great guy back then, and I am sure he left his mark on the world of others as well. We will miss you Jim. Now you have the opportunity to draw on the sky.

Jim always did the best at bringing friends together. I think of a loyal friend when I think of Jim. Although the years passed by we wouldn't see much of one another, I felt we could finish conversations we had started yesterday's ago. I will miss Jim Hislope, God Bless You!
My condolences to your Family at this time of sorrow.

I am deeply sorry to hear about Jim. Though so many years have passed since our school days, what I remember most about Jim was his uncanny ability to make us smile; his artistic abilities and great personality.

I still think of him every time I see a truck with a "Husky" motorcycle sticker on it.

May the Lord comfort you and sustain you in this difficult time.

Sincerely,

Michael Smith

My condolences to all who loved Jim.

I haven't seen him since high school, but we drew comics in classes together and pep ribbons which we screen-printed in Mr. Scott's graphic arts class.

He had such a delightfully mischievous sense of humor. We laughed ourselves to tears on many occasions, which sent us to detention (which was a great place for Jim to hone his prodigious cartooning skills). I'll never forget him, and his memory will always make me smile.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to read the news about Jim. God bless your family in this time of sorrow. Jim was a very good friend I will never forget; he had energy to enjoy life at its best everyday. I was lucky to have shared some of that time with him. When I think back to all the time we spent together it brings back great memories. I remember working together one summer and I haven’t had that much fun at a job since. It was unfortunate through life’s changes that we didn’t stay in touch and I regret that now more than ever. I know Jim will be greatly missed; my thoughts and prayers are with you.

As a high school classmate of Jim I have many fond memories. Hanging out at his house after school talking about motorcycles and surfing. All these years later and living on the east coast for the last twenty years, I thought about Jim from time to time. Many of the drawings that went onto shirts we silk screened in class were Jim's work, I have some of them still in my desk drawer at home. We all carry life's experiences with us, not matter where we go or what we do, know that Jim will always be with me and I with Jim. God Bless.

I was very sad after hearing about Jim. Jim and I became friends in Junior High School when we found out that we both rode motorcycles. I used to come over to the Hislope home after school and talk about motorcycles and work on Jim's motorcycle as well as Mr. Hislopes motorcycle. We would go motorcycle riding together at the "pits" what later became known as Palm Ave. with Jim and Mr. Hislope. Jim and I were probably the two smallest and youngest kids riding Husqvarna 250's and I have to thank Jim and Mr. Hislope for convincing my Dad that I needed a Husqvarna 250. Jim was a great guy and unfortunately we kind of lost contact with one another as we grew older. I have nothing but great memories of Jim and Mr. Hislope as they both brought a lot of joy to my life as I was growing up. I know this has to be a very painful time for the family and I hope that this little note can bring the family some peace and comfort. Best Wishes, Bill Grunwald.
