Jerome Isadore Weiss

WEISS, JEROME ISADORE Jerome (Jerry) Isadore Weiss passed away on Friday, December 26, in Escondido, California at the age of 87. Jerry was born on May 15, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois and shortly thereafter moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Orphaned at the age of 16, Jerry moved in with an older sister until he graduated high school, whereupon he joined the work force at The May Company in Cleveland. At the onset of the war he took a position working in a defense plant on behalf of America ' s war effort. Jerry met, courted, and married Elsie Kaminsky with whom he enjoyed a loving relationship that lasted for 65 years, until the day he passed away. Shortly after the war ended, Jerry began what was to be a 50+ year relationship with The World Insurance Company. Working as an insurance salesman in Cleveland, he eventually won the opportunity to organize and direct a division of World Insurance in Miami, Fla. His leadership in Miami brought World Insurance to a position of pre-eminence in Florida where he continued to supervise operations for 29 years prior to moving to San Diego. He continued to be especially active in insurance consulting on behalf of World Insurance and was also active in a variety of local charities including The Crisis Center of Escondido, Jewish Family Services as well as working at Temple Adat Shalom. Jerry was the proud father of Mr. Martin L. Weiss and Dr. Stuart R. Weiss, both of Carlsbad. He was especially proud of his five grandsons: Mark and Robert of Philadelphia, Scott of Houston, and Damien and Justin of Rancho Santa Fe. Additionally, Jerry was very recently blessed with the addition of a great-grandson, Alex, who also resides in Philadelphia. Jerry will be remembered by those who knew him as a kind, generous and compassionate person. His wife Elsie and extended family were extremely grateful for his love and wisdom. We will all miss him greatly. A Memorial service was held at Temple Adat Shalom and encryption at El Camino Memorial Park Monday, December 29.
