Joan Jankowski Obituary

Jankowski, Joan (McLees) SAN DIEGO -- Joan (McLees) Jankowski was born in 1943 and loved growing up in San Diego as did her father, "Pat" McLees. Her childhood friends were a lifelong presence. Job's Daughters created fond memories; especially cherished were the gowns lovingly made by her mother for her events. Her love of fashion must have originated there. Life made her a strong willed, independent woman. For many decades Joan was a respected professional in the building industry. She occasionally felt compelled to remind colleagues to use clean language as there was a lady present. Her experiences made her a supporter of women's rights and her neighbors' influence made her an advocate for marriage equality, but her passion was for the loving treatment of animals. You could count on Joan to help a stray find a home, walk a friend's dog, care for her beloved cat, or discuss the SD Zoo's Panda news. Her nieces, nephew, and grandnephews had a special place in her heart and she enjoyed taking them on adventures and helping them to develop a love of theatre. She was also loved and survived by her siblings, Jerry, Janet, and J. Bruce McLees. Joan died on April 8, 2015, one of the many casualties of Alzheimer's disease.

Joan was a wonderful human being. She did a lot for my father's construction company, she was a great person to be around.

Dear Family and Friends of Joan,
I did not have the privilege of knowing this lady personally, but when I read her obituary, I knew I would have liked her very much. She had many of the same concerns and interests as myself, especially
her love for animals.
My condolences to all of you in your loss of this special woman.
Sincerely,
Barbara McNair
