Mr Hoefer was my favorite teacher at GHS and set me on course to have a very fulfilling engineering career. He took our practical jokes and pretended to discipline us but did it with a mentors touch.

Mr. Hoefer was one of the most significant influences in my life. His science classes were a joy to attend. His leadership, and passion for teaching, influenced many of us to pursue technical educations and careers. Never forget what the periodic table in his classroom read, "Hoefer is a Gopher."

The "Lunch Bunch" of the Muskogee County Genealogical Society extends its most sincere condolences to John's friends and family. We enjoyed so much having him join us each week in our very informal visits about whatever anyone had on their minds. John seemed to enjoy these weekly Zoom events so much. The last we visited with him he told us he was having surgery and we learned just today of his death. Once again, our condolences and may his memory be a blessing to us all.

Mr. Hoefer was my freshman science teacher in 74-75. He was a great teacher even though I was not a great student. I remember learning BASIC on the old teletype paper tape computers. The cream pie incident was a classic. He really did take it well. RIP Mr. Hoefer.

Always remember all of the great times together as you celebrate a life well lived. I will miss his wry sense of humor and all the fun times when visiting SD. R.I.P Larry.

Mr. Hoefer was my freshman Science teacher '69-70 and senior Physics teacher '72-73. The epitome of "tough but fair". Emphasis on the former. I was class clown in every class but his! His Physics lessons are with me still. We will miss him.

I had him in '72-73 as 1/2 of a freshman chem/ physics intro course. Also in '74-'75 physics class. Remember TTY punch tape computers?? Anyone remember the cream pie episode? He took it so well. We were very lucky with all the quality teachers at Grossmont High at the time. Thank you, John for your dedication to your students.
