Ending a four-year courageous fight against colon cancer, our sweet Joline, aged 74, passed away on November 7 at 5:59am. She died peacefully at home under the loving eyes and gentle caress of Terry, her husband of 47 years.Joline Jeanne Dubois Ashker, eldest daughter of Rosario Dubois and Cora Lauze, was born in Lewiston, ME and moved to San Francisco shortly after graduating from high school. San Diego became her home in 1975. Pre-deceased by her parents and brother Paul, Joline is survived by Terry, her son Ryan (Jennings) and grandchildren Joey and Hudson, daughter Regan (Luis), and nine siblings: Robert "Dubie" Dubois, TX, Venise Guyette, ID, Rose Trocki, MA, Peggy Girard, TX, Donald Dubois, ME, Andre "Andy" Dubois, DE, Rachel Dubois, CA, Bill Dubois, ME, and Therese, TX.Joline worked for many years as a legal secretary for the Small Business Administration and the San Diego law firm of Higgs, Fletcher & Mack. Her next adventure was raising her children and working as a Teacher's Aide in the Poway Unified School District where Joline worked exclusively in classrooms devoted to preschoolers with intellectual and physical disabilities. She also found time to make monthly runs to the Ronald McDonald House with toiletry donations and she tutored adults in ESL through the Poway adult education program.Between her professional career and involvement as team mom for her kids' soccer, baseball, and softball teams, Joline developed a wide network of lasting friendships. She extended kindness and offered love to everyone she met, and her love was always returned tenfold. Joline will be best remembered for her infectious smile, gentle humor, and fierce loyalty to family and friends.Joline's final wish for her friends: "Each year on September 26, please wear blue, eat real milk chocolate (not the healthy stuff), and give some hugs!" A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date.

Joline was one of the most courageous, optimistic and welcoming individuals I've ever known. In 1988, when the Piercey family moved from Scottsdale AZ into a rental home on Penasquitos Court, Joline set the tone for the entire neighborhood in making new residents feel welcome from day one. In fact, our family lived in three houses on Penasquitos Court, finally buying the home I am still living in - and all because of Joline. Over the years she was more than the Watch Captain, she was the glue that kept our neighborhood together. I miss her, but knowing that she is finally at peace and out of pain makes it more bearable. Much love to Terry, Regan and Ryan in their loss.

As a longtime neighbor of Joline's, I can honestly say that she will be sorely missed in the neighborhood. Joline was a one-person welcome wagon. I appreciate all the time that she put in to making sure that nobody felt like a stranger on our block. And when something was amiss you could count on her to be on top of it.

Joline was very generous when my daughters were in Girl Scouts selling cookies or selling wrapping paper door-to-door for school events. She would always find something to buy from them even with so many kids in the neighborhood.

Joline and I had a shared passion for crafting, especially quilting. I enjoyed seeing her finished pieces. One time when we were visiting she knew my eldest loved everything with angels and found a fabric scrap with angels on it from a past project for her.

My sympathy to Terry, Ryan & Regan. Joline will be greatly missed in the neighborhood.

I worked with Joline in the poway school district for many years. She was such a fine, positive, enthusiastic person and I have fond memories of working with her in the special education department. we had many fun times with laughter and socializing after school hours and I will cherish her memories . my prayers for Terry, Ryan, and Regan.

Sincere sympathy to Terry and family in losing Joline. One of my favorite memories of Joline is whenever I put out my Christmas decorations they include the pillow Joline made with stockings holding candy canes. I'll especially cherish that pillow this year. Love, Lynn

I'm so sorry to read of Joline's passing. We live in Texas now but I still read the SD Union. Though it's many years since I've seen Joline at SBA, she always had a smile on her face. May Terry, Ryan and Regan and her whole family cherish all of the memories that you've had together and hold them close to your hearts.

My deepest sympathy to Terry, Ryan, Regan, and all the family. Joline was wonderful in every way. Hard to believe that it's been more than 30 years since my daughter Krista played with Regan on Coach Terry's soccer teams, and Joline leading the cheering as team Mom. Such great times and relationships We will all deeply miss Joline. God Bless!!
