Jon Schneider Obituary

Jon David Schneider July 20, 1967 - September 6, 2017 San Diego Jon Schneider of San Diego, California, passed away on September 6, 2017, after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer. Jon was the loving husband of Molly Hauser Schneider and the devoted father of three wonderful children, Allison, Melissa and Jeremy. He was the son of Gail and Ira Schneider of Scottsdale, Arizona, brother of Meredith Schneider of Scottsdale, son-in-law of Jan and Mark Hauser of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, brother-in-law of Sandy Hauser and Jeff Parness of New York City and Michael and Julie Hauser of Oak Park, Michigan, and uncle of nine special nieces and nephews. Jon leaves behind aunts, uncles and cousins who he adored, and many, many good friends. Jon was 50 years old. Jon embraced life and maintained a remarkable will to live, asking "what's next" until his last days. He looked forward to the upcoming holidays and simchas with family. He adored his wife Molly more than words can say, and she was his determined and constant best friend and advocate, by his side day and night during his illness. Jon was a hockey player and an avid sports fan who was true to the Padres through thick and thin but his truest allegiances were to his home team, the New York Yankees (Jon grew up in Hewlett, New York), the Arizona State Sun Devils, his alma mater and above all, the Powerhouse, Little League, competition dance groups, ASB committees and other pursuits of his incredibly talented kids. Most recently he was a huge Alabama fan, where his daughter Allie attends school. Jon most of all loved his family, including his in-laws, his extended family, and the friends that have been so close that they really are family. He was also exceptionally devoted to the Jewish community in San Diego, Israel and around the world. Jon was a member of the Jewish Federation of North America's Young Leadership Cabinet and traveled with the Cabinet to communities in need around the world, experiences that moved him profoundly. He was a member of the Board of the Jewish Federation of San Diego and a chair of its Israel and Overseas Committee. Jewish continuity, connection, and tikkun olam were guiding principles. He was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Israel. Jon moved to San Diego not long after graduating from Arizona State University and made it his home. Though a 25-year resident of Southern California, Jon always remained a consummate New Yorker and never lost his taste for a real pastrami sandwich and good slice of pizza. But it was in San Diego where he met Molly and began a career in sports marketing, where he made lifelong relationships and friendships with colleagues around the world. He was also a watch aficionado and spent years travelling and pursuing that business as well. Jon's happiest and proudest moments were sharing in both the remarkable accomplishments and the everyday conversations with his family. Jon was truly a treasure, he will be sorely missed and remembered forever. The family wishes to thank the doctors and incredible staff at UCSD for their wonderful support.

I have been fortunate to know Jon and Molly through my brother over the last 20 years as they worked together in the Sports Marketing business many years ago in San Diego. I have the greatest of memories laughing with them over my brother Fred and Allison's Wedding Celebration weekend in Rancho Santa Fe...
As a Stage IV Cancer survivior I am so proud of Jon for his strong battle these 8 months but know that he is now at peace.
I know that Molly and his kids will always know that he fought the fight!
May he rest in peace always.
Regards,
Sharon OStern

Our condolences to all of David's family and friends. While I am certain we must have met David at some Jewish function or at Friday night services at Beth Israel, I am pretty sure David and his family didn't really know us on a personal level, but we still have a lot of sympathy for the family. We hope the family can come through this tragedy with strength and continue to enjoy happy and fruitful lives in the future.
