DEAN, JUDY Jan. 12, 1933 to April 8, 2003 Judy Dean, 70, passed away on April 8, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born in Vancouver, Canada, Judy grew up in California and spent most of her life here. She became a naturalized citizen in 1961. In the early 1970s, Judy found her way into the massage industry by way of the beauty industry. She opened her first massage business in 1974 and eventually had 2 massage schools in the Bay Area. She joined Mueller College in 1980 (marrying Bill Mueller in 1982) and in 1987 opened a day spa which she sold in 1991. Judy studied anthropology and psychology at Berkeley and was deeply interested in the role of the spa industry in non-medical health care. She was a lifelong entrepreneur and her last project was a holistic health center and spa in Prescott, Ariz. called Agua Dulce. She spent much of her time in service to the massage profession, serving in the American Massage Therapy Association at the local state and national levels. She is survived by her sister Toni McMorris of New Mexico, her brother Bill of Washington, daughter Victoria Zutavern of Washington, son Lou Zutavern of Sherman Oaks, two grandsons, five nieces and four nephews. Her many friends, professional and personal, will miss her charismatic presence in their lives.
