Katherine Faulkner Obituary

Katherine (Kay) Faulkner, 80 ESCONDIDO - Katherine Frances Faulkner, 80, passed away November 6, 2007 at the Escondido Life Care Center where she had resided for the past 13 months. Kay was born in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Mary Hutchinson on April 14, 1927. She met her husband Richard (Dick) Faulkner in, Kalamazoo, Michigan and was married in Allegan, Michigan in 1950. She graduated from "Good Council Catholic High School" in Chicago and studied Journalism in St Louis where she earned a degree from Webster University. During Kay's early years here in Escondido she became involved with the city council and relentlessly pursed an effort to get street corner sidewalk ramps installed at several street corners. Her efforts came to fruition when the city agreed to install 15 ramps on the main corners in the heart of the city. Since that time almost all corners in this city, that she came to love, has had ramps installed. Her name appears on bronze plaques at the site of each of the first ramps. She was an devoted member of St Mary Church here in Escondido where she served on several committees and she almost always was the secretary. She loved working on a computer and would volunteer to help in anyway she could. Her shorthand and typing skills were called upon for assistance in typing paperwork for the Siera Club. For several years she was a main participant in the "Western Roundup', a fund raiser for a planned new hall at St Mary where she spent many hours, very cheerfully, typing all the necessary paperwork. During her struggle with "Multiple Sclerosis" in her later years of life she maintained her composure and was always positive in her attitude and love for others was never compromised. She served 8 years as a Trustee on the board of directors for the "Multiple Sclerosis Society" during the mid 80's. She is survived by her husband, Richard, her son David and his wife Lori and two grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held at noon on Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Church of St Mary, 1160 South Broadway, Escondido. Father Richard Perozich, pastor will be the main celebrant. A Rosary will take place on Sunday night, November 25, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at St Mary Church. Inurnment will follow on Tuesday at Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the "Kay Faulkner Memorial Scholarship Fund" at the Church of St Mary. The family thanks "Vitas Hospice of San Diego" for their generous and kind support. "California Funeral Alternatives of Escondido" handled arrangements. Dick,
How well we remember what a great lady Kay was. She was kind and thoughtful. She was very helpful to Marie when the MS group was being formed and continued to support the group for as long as she could. We have only fond memories of her. She was a blessing to us.
God Bless,

Dear Uncle Dick and David, Lori, Kara and DJ,

Aunt Katie will be greatly missed by all of us in the family. Her great courage and strength during her illness have taught us all that many thing's can still be accomplished if you want to succeed. No matter how she was feeling she made sure we all knew that she loved us by her dedicated e-mail's and phone calls. I'll never forget as her niece the many "I LOVE YOUS and FAMOUS HUGS"

Mom; I miss you dearly. You were a great mother and always there for me in those tough times. I can see you smiling as we speak. Your loss will be felt among many who knew you well. Your impact on me can be seen in the man I am today.

I love you;
Dave
