Lawrence Krell Obituary

KRELL, LAWRENCE J. Lt. Lawrence J. Krell, USN Retired, 87, of Lemon Grove, passed away December 29. "Larry" was born in Wilmont, Minn., the youngest of 8 children, to farmers John and Mary Krell. A military career man, he served his country heroically during WWII (Dutch Harbor, Alaska, Battle of Iwo Jima, Guam and Paramushir, Japan) and the Korean War. He was stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, Washington State, San Diego, Calif., Guam and earned his wings in Pensacola, Fla. He was an active member of the Silver Eagles Organization and was a member of the Lemon Grove VFW. Larry went on to work for the San Diego Gas & Electric Co. after retiring from the Navy. He retired from SDG in 1981. Since that time he traveled with his family to Minnesota, Pensacola and Alaska sharing his history with his children (3), grandchildren (12) and great-grandchildren (22+). He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara (Walker) Krell, his devoted and loving children Sandra, Larinda, and Robert, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Grandpa, aka GRAMPS, will be remembered lovingly by all those who knew this wonderful and generous man. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery (4470 Hilltop Dr), followed by Military Funeral Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Veterans Administration Hospital, Homeless Veterans or the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC in Larry ' s name. I want you all to know that I remember Uncle Larry Krell when all of us kids were growing up. I am one Virleana Sartain/Johnsons Daughters (second one)

I will always love him and will never forget him in my heart.. The whole family is in my prayers and thoughts. I send my love to you all and please give Aunt Barbara a hug and kiss from all Virleana's kids.
