Linda Davis Obituary

Linda W. Davis
October 14, 1949 - October 3, 2021
San Diego, CA

Our darling Linda, affectionately known to many as "Sugah," passed away in her Point Loma home Sunday evening, October 3, 2021 from metastasized breast cancer. She had a radiance about her. When told her cancer had returned in 2016, she said the focus of her whole being for the rest of her life was to live as fully as possible with the disease, not dying from it. Her knowledge, positivity and optimism were generously shared with others affected by cancer. She was surrounded by family plus the family dog Prince Harry.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, Linda attended Richmond Academy. She was a skilled water skier able to shalom on one ski over the waters of Clarks Hill Lake. She was a spirited drum majorette who could twirl with the best. Linda was an even better dancer. From tango, rock, Motown or hula, she had all the right moves. She even won a dance contest at a James Brown concert in Augusta's Bell Auditorium.

Upon graduation she entered the US Civil Service at Fort Gordon, Georgia and held a top secret clearance. There she met her husband Joe, a newly commissioned US Army Second Lieutenant. She continued her education at Mesa Community College in San Diego. Linda particularly enjoyed her archeological field trips and digs in east San Diego County. She was avid reader and lover of books. Favorite author: Pat Conroy. She was always well prepared for a lively discussion at her Point Loma book club gatherings. She shared her passion for learning and children as a Teacher's Aide at Sunset View Elementary for over 15 years.

Linda's San Diego adventure began in the summer of 1972 with Joe, a jam packed 1968 VW bus, and their St. Bernard dog, Sam. From Augusta to San Diego, the trip lasted over two months. Linda was the sole bread winner at this time as she resumed her Civil Service work at the Naval Electronics Lab while Joe finished his masters at San Diego State.

She was generous in giving of her time and talents to the Point Loma Thursday Club (TC Juniors President 1985-1986), ZLAC Rowing Club, Rady Children's Hospital Dana Unit, Sunset View Elementary, among many others. Thoughtfulness was one of her many qualities and giving was how she expressed herself. From her journal, "...things I can give: time, energy, humor, laughter, heart, compassion, empathy, sense of security, unwavering and unconditional love." Linda felt deeply privileged to enjoy the companionship and love of so many good friends in San Diego and around the world.

In 2000 her husband's job change landed the family in Honolulu, Hawai'i. What was to be a commitment of 5 years turned into 13 years. Linda loved the islands, she epitomized the Aloha Spirit, and she made new life-long relationships. Linda delighted in discovering ocean tumbled sea glass on her secret beach near Diamond Head.

She knew when she needed to be closer to friends and relatives, so Joe's retirement in 2013 was the perfect time to complete her path back to San Diego. In retirement, world travel and entertaining friends at home gave her great joy. She loved the performing arts. Linda was so taken by the play "Hamilton," that she saw the production in Chicago, New York City, London, and San Diego.

Linda is survived by her husband of 50 years, Joe; children, Robert Benjamin Davis (wife Alecxa), Tucker Bair Davis, and Natalie Adele Ruth Davis; grandchildren, Alexzandria Tatiana Davis and Sonny Nicklaus Davis; brothers, Larry Brooks Wright (wife Pam) of Edgefield, SC and David Clarence Wright, Sr. (wife Kris) of Martinez, GA. sister-in-law Carol Couch and husband Jackson Couch reside in Hudson, NY. Linda was predeceased by her parents. She will always be our beautiful bird of paradise. Memorial donations may be made to: Susan G. Komen Foundation www.komen.org

My deepest sympathy to your family. Linda was such a sweet lady. I remember when she sent me a letter when I was having trouble with Kelley and she opened up about something she went through and gave me support. I will always remember that kindness. She was a special lady. She will be missed.

We share the sorrow of family and friends and echo all the great loving comments flowing so beautifully expressed from those who were lucky enough to have known and enjoyed being in Linda's company. For Joanie and I - there's no forgetting the several wonderful dinners at Joe & Linda's spectacular home looking over Diamond Head and especially blown away by Linda's world class table settings! These are in our best lifetime memories file forever.

Everything said about Linda is true. She truly was an exceptional lady. When I was president of Thursday Club Juniors she was my secretary and constant friend and encourager. She had such a sweet spirit about her and was always fun to be around. The world was a better place having her in it. She will truly be sorely missed but I feel blessed to of had a friend like Linda in my life.

Linda was truly a light in my life. She was courageous, generous, and full of life and energy for her family and friends. She battled breast cancer with a brave armor. A true inspiration. She helped Ernie and me as we face his brain cancer. Always ready with an adventure to keep us all hopeful. I miss her smile,
