Lois Jane Godwin Obituary

Lois Godwin, 81 OCEANSIDE -- Lois Jane Godwin, 81 years young, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2008 surrounded by her family. Lois was born August 16, 1926, in Greenville, Miss., to John and Lucille Buchanan. She first came to Oceanside in 1944 and married her husband, MgySgt Edward R. Godwin, a decorated WWII Marine veteran. While her husband Edward continued to serve his country, Lois raised her four children and began a career in Civil Service lasting nearly 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; and son, Edward Bernard "Barney" Godwin; her sister-in-law, Joan Buchanan; and her brother, Charles Buchanan. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, John Godwin and Geri McMahon (Webster, N.Y.), Thomas and Linda Godwin (Oceanside); daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Mark Lambrecht (Vista); sister, Gloria Allen; brother and sister-in-law, John and Elsie Buchanan (Vicksburg, Miss.); sister-in-law, Ruth Buchanan (Carrollton, Texas); her cousin, Faye Railsback (McComb, Miss.); granddaughters, Laurie Godwin, Trina Marie Godwin, Tamara Jeanne Godwin, Shelby Lin Godwin; and grandson, Matthew David Godwin; and many nieces and nephews. Lois loved her family and was loved by them as well as by her many wonderful friends. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the incredible support and love provided to her by the staff and residents of Brighton Gardens of Carlsbad. They became our extended family who supported and cared for her as we did. She will be greatly missed by us all. In lieu of flowers, Lois asked that a donation be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

Becky and Family Members: In the 30's and 40's Lois and I always lived on opposite sides of the street, foot and bus travel was the norm. We passed each other often and I'd yell helloooo....Loisss just to hear her cheery reply, her voice resonated, joy and optimism. I knew the day would be better. When Lois moved to California, the distance was greater, but I did talk to my sister in Lois's home, while visiting Gloria in Vicksburg. Lois and Ed stood with me when I faced the notorius justice of peace, Miss Lucy Brown in Vicksburg. Bless em all.

Becky, Thomas, and John,
We are very saddened to hear of your mother's passing. So many wonderful memories we share, Lois and I, our families, and our husbands. I'm sure she has the men laughing up above. May you each have comfort knowing your mother is resting in peace now.
Thoughtfully, Billie, Wayne, Larry, and Debbie Hayes

We just want the whole family to know how much we love you and how much we are going to miss your mom. Some people just hold an extra special place in your heart and your mom was one of those people for me. Although we did not see each other as often as we should have, I am so grateful for my recent visit with her and that I was finally able to introduce my Glenn to my wonderful Aunt Lois. No one else quite had her zest for life and sense of humor which was only complemented by her beauty, love, kindness, thoughtfulness and consideration for all those around her. She was our aunt who could and would be silly with us and any time spent with her was our own little party. I know that she is up in heaven at peace and looking down on all of you with love and pride at what beautiful people you’ve all turned out to be. I will cherish her always…. and look forward to our first great game of Texas hold ’em up there. Love to you all, Terri (Ter Ter), Glenn and Tim.

Becky,It is with great remorse that we have to write this message to you. You know how much she meant to us in all our winters that we spent with her. Noone can fill that void.

I remember Lois from our days in the 60's when we worked together in the Sunday School at King of Kings Lutheran Church. I have thought of her often through the years. She was such a beautiful person and a joy to work with. I remember her sons, John and Tom, and have wondered if the writer of great letters to the editor in the NCTimes were written by Tom. I'd love to know. My prayers and sympathy are with all of Lois's family.

Becky:

My thoughts are with you and your family. Your Mom was a neat person, made my tour at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton alot more enjoyable when I had the chance to visit with her during my routine visits to the commissary. God bless.

My heart and prayers go to you, my dear cousins, during this time and always. Aunt Lois was loved by all and already dearly missed. I can only hope she is up there with Granddaddy playing cards, laughing and continuing to watch over us all. I am sure Granddaddy has the ropes down now - so he'll be able to give her some shortcuts on how to hug us when we really need it from 'up there'. My love and condolences to you all. I wish I could be there.
