Lt. Commander Moore Obituary

Lieutenant Commander Charles E. "Chuck" Moore passed away at home in San Marcos, CA, on Thursday, November 3, 2022. He is survived by his brother, Gary Moore, sons Douglas and Jeffrey Moore, daughters Deborah and Constance Noble, six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Chuck dedicated his life to service, leadership, and education. He started in his early years, during the Depression, delivering newspapers, groceries, and baked goods. As a boy, his passion was scouting. He became an in Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts, spending time at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM, as both a scout and staff member. During the Korean war, he knew he wanted to serve in the military. He started as a Navy Cadet in High School and finished his college education at Annapolis Naval Academy (Class of '52). After graduation, he headed into Naval Aviation and, once he received his wings, spent his early career flying off aircraft carriers such as the USS Midway, USS Randolph, and USS Kitty Hawk. After years of being a pilot, Chuck attended Naval Intelligence school and became a Naval Intelligence Officer. 1965 found him in Vietnam, assigned to Joint Services, serving under General William C. Westmoreland, where he helped develop infrared photography in its early stages. He retired with the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1972, when he was honorably discharged after 20 years of service.
After retiring from the military, Chuck continued his path of service. He became a member of Chula Vista Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He helped found the Bonita Optimist Club, which is dedicated to helping youth. He spent many years serving the community, mentoring children, and teaching others the importance of community service. He was especially proud of his work as a Docent at the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista.
Chuck will be given a military burial at sea. There will be no public memorial service, per his request, and there will be a memorial plaque placed at the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial in La Jolla, CA.
In lieu of flowers, Chuck requested donations be made in his memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, New York 10306, or online: t2t.org/donate
