Lynn Scozzari Obituary

Lynnett Marie (Robison) Scozzari, talented writer, inspiring athlete, and a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away on March 2, 2023, at Hospice of the North Coast's Pacifica House facility after a 12-year journey with stage 4 breast cancer.

Lynn was born in Phoenix, Arizona, on October 26, 1960, to Jane Robison, a single mother, and was assisted by loving grandparents. Soon, they would move to Bloomington, Indiana, until Lynn graduated high school. She was a star player on the basketball team in high school. She was named to the Indiana All-State Basketball Team, earning a scholarship to play basketball at a junior college in Montana after graduating from high school. After completing her Associate's Degree, Lynn moved to the Tampa/St. Petersburg, Florida area and transferred to the University of South Florida to finish college while being near her family.

After graduating with a degree in communications/journalism, Lynn's first job was at a local radio station. She then worked on political campaigns, magazines, and for Volunteers of America and other non-profits. At 26, she moved to San Diego, CA, to live with her lifelong friend, Jane. It was here that she met her life partner of 34 years, Anthony Scozzari. Anthony and Lynn liked to joke that they didn't understand what people meant when they would say that true love doesn't just show up at your door because that is exactly how they met. Anthony showed up at Lynn's door, and after four months of writing letters and traveling to see each other, they were engaged! After a brief move back to Florida, Anthony and Lynn settled in San Diego, California. In 1995, Lynn and Anthony had a baby boy, Dakota.

Lynn worked from home while raising Dakota. Over the years, she worked for multiple magazines, ran her own PR business, and worked at Weight Watchers as a program leader. She volunteered at schools and later in life at a cardiac rehab facility. She was extremely compassionate and loved helping and mentoring. Up until a few weeks before her passing, Lynn was involved with mentoring cancer patients and providing guidance and wisdom for those who were coming to terms with their diagnoses. Lynn was endlessly dedicated to her craft of writing and was a published poet and writer.

Just as Lynn's athleticism allowed her to excel at basketball in her younger years, that same athleticism made her a strong triathlete. She completed multiple marathons, multiple half-Ironman triathlons, and completed one full Ironman. It was this strength and resilience that allowed her to live gracefully through 12 years of off and on cancer treatment.

Lynn was a spiritual person who practiced mindfulness and meditation every day. This was a deeply personal and important part of her routine. Here is an excerpt from one of her short poems that touches on her beliefs about the world:

Earth, wind, sky, clouds, rocks
Have me,
If you will.
This body - no longer young
Not quite old.
From the Earth we come,
To the Earth we'll return.

Lynn is survived by her Husband Anthony, Son Dakota, Aunt Suzanne, Half-Sister Julene, and Cousins Nancy, Jerry, Adam, Sara Beth, and Jon.

Lynn's family and friends miss her immensely, but they are grateful for all the years they were able to spend with her and happy to know she is now at peace. Anthony and Dakota would like to give their sincere thanks to all the friends and medical professionals that have reached out to help or provided incredible care over the years. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we will always value the care you provided to make our Lynn as comfortable as possible.
