A loss for his family, friends, colleagues - though 9 years have passed, he is far from forgotten.

I have only just come across this website. I worked for Malcolm as a young mathematician in the 1980´s. He was an excellent boss and his encouragement and enthusiasm undoubtedly helped me get my first promotion - very proud to have received a " box A " work assessment from him at the end of the year I worked for him. As well as a brilliant person work wise, he was also great fun for example he once helped me move a bed into my first house (which was too big to take up the stairs) using rope and pulleys through an upstairs window - I knew that mathematical mechanics course would come in useful one day! A great guy.

My fondest memories of Malcolm come with kids attached. He was the best father figure I have ever met. He was always available for giving a helping hand or to explain a difficult subject. His patience was amazing. He will be greatly missed.

That was a wonderful write-up of Malcolm's life. I remember him best as one of the most active and fun dads at the EE playgroup events, always willing to help out with everything and interact with the kids. Malcolm was really a good man and will be missed by everyone who knew him. I'm so sorry to hear that he's gone.

These are my remembrances of Malcolm. He made a big impression on me. I am so glad that he came into my sister's life so that I had a chance to know him.
I'll start by saying that I wish I could have met his parents. They must have been really special people, because they raised an incredible individual. Malcolm was so wise, and so humble, yet assertive as required. He was also very willing to participate in life, whether it be goofing around with kids, or joining a church group and volunteering for the crop walk, or some other good cause. My son Caden was instinctively drawn to him when they first met. Caden was only one year old at the time and we were living in Honolulu when Malcolm, Danielle and Guy came for a visit. I think Caden was attracted by Malcolm's calm, accepting manner. Caden called him "man". Or, as we would jokingly say, THE man! And he was a very good example of a man. Capable and competent, he did not seek the spotlight, but did not shy away from it either. He held his ground in his kind, gentle way. The quiet strength showed in how he cared for his loved ones. I think it was easy to feel safe and secure around him, knowing he had your back. Non-judgmental and tolerant, yet not putting up with unfairness for either himself or family or friends.
Oh, and in addition to being tolerant, kind, nonjudgmental...did I mention he was incredibly smart? A genius truly, as his accomplishments in math and science attest. He had so much he could be arrogant about, but there seemed no trace of it within him. I guess he didn't need that vice. He was secure enough to go without it.
I will miss Malcolm. I am glad to have known him. He left this world a better place.

Please accept my condolences for your loss of Malcolm. I haven't been in touch with Malcolm in recent years, but still think of him often. I did share an office with him and another worker in the early 1980's and we often lunched together. Though I knew of him before becoming office mates, I certainly came to respect him more during this time not only because of his brilliance in mathematics and associated areas, but, in addition, what a great guy he was.

We will miss sure miss Malcolm. He was such a kind man and always had a smile on his face. Some of my favorite memories include visiting San Diego as a kid and spending time with Malcolm and Danielle. In particular, Malcolm and I getting splashed by Shamu at Seaworld! Now I have a son, who had the joy of spending time with Malcolm on a few different trips to San Diego. Malcolm even helped him learn to swim in their pool! He will always be in our hearts.

I am grateful to have met him before he passed. Even then, so near the end, in the midst of such tribulations, he was friendly and upbeat. It was a good day. Dear, dear Danielle... through such sorrow, may your spirit be soothed by all the love that surrounds you. I hope you can return to chorus soon. We miss you and we are here to support you. Peace to you and Guy, Kelci

Malcolm was a true gentleman and a good friend. I met him through his wife Danielle and enjoyed conversations and time spent chatting with him. He was clever, very well educated and a fun person to share stories with. We all were lucky to have known him and his family!

Over the years Malcolm's dry humor, wonderful British accent that never changed, quick mind and warm heart have brought us many many smiles, With his wonderful wife Danielle and beautiful son Guy- both such obvious sources of love and enrichment to him - his life was one well-lived. He will be missed.
