Margaret Alexander Obituary
Margaret Alexander, 93, passed away July 6th at Sharp Parkview Hospice House. Margaret was surrounded by loved ones as she peacefully made her transition from this earth. She was born in San Diego to Clarence K. MacGregor and Grace Holland MacGregor. Margaret was predeceased in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Clarence 'Neal' Alexander, in 1999.
Margaret retired from Chula Vista Elementary School District in 1994 after 25 years as a food service manager, operating a central kitchen that served thousands of student meals per day. She received an Associates degree in Food Services from Southwestern Community College.
Margaret grew up in Logan Heights and graduated from San Diego High School in 1947. She married Neal in 1948 and lived in the South Bay, living in her Bonita home for 60 years.
While Margaret was a woman of great humor and kindness, she experienced hardship, losing two children in infancy: and providing care to Neal after his Parkinson's Disease diagnosis. Strong both physically and emotionally, Margaret coped with these tragic life circumstances with dignity and grace.
Margaret was introduced to the game of golf and became an avid golfer. Margaret was particularly proud of her hole-in-one at Bonita Golf Club. She played regularly into her eighties.
After Neal's passing, Margaret joined the Southwestern College Choir and travelled the world performing at music venues such as Notre Dame Cathedral, Sydney Opera House, and Carnegie Hall. Family trips included several European tours, and she enjoyed frequent trips throughout the USA.
Margaret is survived by three children; Teri Belcher (Byron) of Queenstown, Maryland, Janis Godfrey (Richard) and Tom Alexander (Karen) both of La Mesa, three grandchildren; Alex Godfrey Barton, Bonnie Alexander and Clay Alexander, three great-grandchildren and a large group of nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Clyde MacGregor and Marie MacGregor Martin, as well as her husband Neal, and daughter, Jill.
A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, July 17 at 10:00 am at Glen Abbey Memorial Park, 3838 Bonita Road, Bonita. The family suggests donations in Margaret's name to Parkinson's Association of San Diego or Fred Finch Youth & Family Services.
