Mary Blankemeier Obituary

Mary Frances Blankemeier July 6, 1928 - September 11, 2017 Denver, CO Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Mary Fran ascended to heaven on September 11th at the age of 89. Mother to Michael, Patrick, James (Jim) and Elizabeth. Mother-in-law to Karen, Kim, and Midori. Grandmother to Stephanie, Kevin, Amy, Allie, and Grant. She will be greatly missed by her extended family and many great friends, especially George and Hennie Caruana, friends of more than 63 years. Mary was raised in Washington D.C. and Virginia before attending nursing school at the University of Virginia and subsequently enlisting in the U.S. Navy as a flight nurse in Hawaii. While in Hawaii, she met her late husband, John, and moved to multiple cities in California and Pennsylvania prior to moving their family to San Diego in 1970. She spent the next 46 years in San Diego working many years as a devoted nurse at SDSU prior to retirement. This past year she lived in Colorado with family. Mary always found the good in anyone she encountered and was eager to lend a hand to anyone in need. She will be fondly remembered for a life built around her family and friends. Her goodness and graciousness will be deeply missed by all that she touched. Services will be held at the Miramar National Cemetery on Friday, October 20, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. with reception to follow at Miramar Officers' Club.
