Mary Rose Obituary

Mary Lou Rose passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 2, 2023 at her home in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego, California. Mary Lou was an avid reader, animal lover, proud mother, and devoted grandmother.

Mary Lou was born on November 17, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois to Robert J. and Mary A. McCorry and was one of four children. She earned her bachelor's degree in business administration from Indiana State University, where she met her husband CDR Kenneth Carl Rose, USN, who predeceased her in 2001. Mary Lou held a variety of administrative positions in several fields, but the title she was most proud of was "mom" to her two children Michael McCorry Rose of New York, New York and Kathleen Rose Badillo of San Diego, California. A lifelong volunteer, she dedicated many hours to organizations including the Senior Community Centers of San Diego, The Monterey Bay Aquarium, The Monterey Choral Society, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Diego.

In addition to her children, Mary Lou is survived by her brothers Robert McCorry and James McCorry, her sister Judith Webber, and her granddaughter Aurelia Rose Badillo, as well as many other family members and loving friends who will forever miss her beautiful smile and unwavering sense of humor. A memorial dinner is being held in her honor on May 6th in Coronado. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that a donation be made to her favorite San Diego dog rescue organization: www.scratchmybelly.org.

I am so sorry to hear that your Mother passed Michael and Katie. We were good friends and stationed in the Philippines together in the mid '80's. We have such fond memories of your Mom and Dad and are will smile every time we think of them.

Dear Michael and Kathleen, I am saddened to learn of your Mom's passing. She worked for me as my Office Manager in the late '80s and attended a special "Welcome Aboard" dinner I sponsored in her honor including your talented Dad, K.C. at the MCRD Officers Club. She was a delightful person and I missed her when she left my employment.
My deepest sympathy for your loss.
Most Sincerely, Stan Wyatt

Mary

When I met your Mom over 20 years ago, I immediately felt like part of the family. She embraced me like we had known each other for a long time, and that continued as we did get to know each other. She was a sister to me in many ways. I always wanted a big sister and she sure filled that role. I loved her wit, her stories, her laughter and her love of reading. I miss her and I will be with all of you in spirit on Saturday. Love and thoughts to all. It will be a good, celebratory and touching evening.
