Mary Schoen Obituary

Mary T. Schoen December 19, 1933 - January 10, 2023 San Diego Mary Teresa Schoen, née Alvarado, was born and raised in San Diego. She attended La Mesa Grammar School and graduated from Grossmont/Helix High School in 1952. She met her future husband, Joe Schoen, while roller skating at the Palisades Roller Rink in San Diego. Joe was stationed here in the Navy, and they married on May 11, 1952.
Mary worked for many years as a waitress throughout numerous restaurants in S.D., while raising her 4 children with Joe. Mary and Joe bought the Fosters Freeze on Navajo Road in the late 70's. They both loved traveling on the Princess Cruise Line, family vacations to Missouri and Disneyland. Mary was an excellent cook and homemaker. She was famous for her Spanish Rice and daily pots of soup.
Mary is survived by her four children: Mary Jo Crouch (Jerry), Joseph Schoen, Jr. (Dorothy), Jerry Schoen (Dina), Joni Malecek (Randy); Grandchildren: Judi Edison (Dave), Michael Crouch, Jessica and Trevor Schoen, Mari and Jaclynn Schoen, Kayla and Erin Schlumm; Great-grandchildren: Kristen, Jacob, and James Edison. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews in California, Idaho, Texas and Missouri.
Mary was preceded in death by husband Joseph Schoen, parents Mary and Cesario Alvarado, brother Edward Alvarado, sisters Shirley Higgins, and Rose Goss.
Funeral services will be held at St. Martin Of Tours Catholic Church, 7710 El Cajon Blvd., La Mesa, CA, on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 10:00 A.M.
