Maureen Ecke Obituary

Maureen "Mo" Ecke, age 75, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and her beloved dog Sasha on November 19, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. Mo's family and friends take comfort in knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life, her late husband Paul Ecke Jr. who passed away in 2002.
She was born July 10, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida to Edgar B. McClure, USN, a World War II Navy Ace, the last Flying Tiger, and Lois Lott McClure SI USNR. Mo spent most of her childhood on the beaches of St. Simon's Island, Georgia with her older sister Lonnie and younger sister Lucy. Eventually she made her way to California and settled in Encinitas. After being admitted to the California bar in 1981, Mo practiced family law until her retirement in 1998.
Helping others was paramount to Mo. She was involved in many different charities and organizations. She was on the Board of Advisors for the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA along with serving several times as chairperson for the Paul Ecke, Jr. Poinsettia Ball. She was also active with the San Diego Botanic Garden and spent time on the advisory board for California State University San Marcos.
The first thing you noticed about Mo was her inviting smile. She had a way of making you feel like the most important person in the room when talking to her. She was amazingly grateful for the people around her. She loved to cook, try new recipes and to host family and friends. Many were on the receiving end of Mo's handwritten thank you notes and cards. She loved to brighten people's days with
gestures of positivity.
An avid walker, Mo looked forward to meeting up almost daily with her YMCA Walking Groups. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially at her house in New Hampshire where she spent time with family and friends kayaking, snowshoeing, hiking, and walking her dogs. A talented artist, much of Mo's artwork decorated the beautiful home she created with her soulmate, Paul. It was a blessing she was able to spend her final days in the home they shared together, surrounded by love.
Mo was a hands-on "bonus" grandmother to the seven Ecke grandchildren and regularly engaged in art and cooking projects with them. She loved her nieces and nephews, along with their children, and cherished her time with them. Her memory will be a blessing for many.
She is survived by her sister Lonnie (Barland) Soldi and her husband Stephen of Point Loma, CA; sister Lucy (McClure) Hubbard of W. Stewartstown, NH; nephew Richard Clements of Panama City Beach, FL; nephew Sean Jones and his wife Kati of Boise, ID : niece Heather Harris Michonski and her husband Jason of Mansfield, MA; nephew Aaron Gillis and his wife Christine of Surry, NH; stepson Paul Ecke III and his wife Julie Hampton of Encinitas, CA; stepdaughter Lizbeth Ecke and her husband David Meyer of Encinitas, CA; stepdaughter Sara Ecke May and her husband Andrew of Raleigh, NC; her step-grandchildren Max and Polly Ecke, Matthew and Lillie Meyer, and Corinne, Vanessa, and Carolyn May; her great nieces and nephews, Dexter, Nolan, Vivien, Natalia, Cora, Taylor, Carter, and Joshua; and of course Mo's best friend and companion, her beloved Springer Spaniel, Sasha.
For those who wish, donations can be made in Mo's memory to the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA, San Diego Botanic Garden, or Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas. A celebration of life will be planned for some time in the spring. In the meantime, she would be thrilled if you sent flowers to someone you love today.
