Miriam Emarine Obituary
EMARINE, MIRIAM HISLOP Born February 21, 1917, in Roosevelt, Utah, to Clara Merkley and John Hislop; died February 17, 2003, after a long illness, of emphysema and congestive heart failure. She attended schools in Vernal, Utah, later graduating from Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah. She was an Executive Secretary at the International Harvester Branch in Salt Lake City where she met, and later married, on September 20, 1941, Charles Wm. Emarine, Sr. who survives her. Other survivors include a daughter Judith Lynne-Marin; a son Charles Wm. Emarine, Jr. MD, both of San Diego; and son Richard D. Emarine of Dillon, Colorado. Grandsons Chad Emarine of San Diego, Adam C. Emarine of Dillon Colorado, granddaughter Carrie M. Emarine of Boulder Colorado; a sister Helen Mar Martinsen of Vernal Utah; aunt Sarah Engberson of Oakland Calif. She attended the Presbyterian Church in her early years, and later was a member of the Emarine ' s family church, the First Congregational Church of Council Bluffs, Iowa, for 35 years. She was a full-time mother, and after raising her family became Vice-President and Secretary of Emarines, Inc. of Council Bluffs, Iowa, an office outfitting and printing firm. After the business was sold in 1976, she and her husband retired and moved to San Diego where her daughter, Judith, and son Charles Wm. Jr had already located. Friends and relatives knew Miriam as "Mickie", a nickname befitting her ready wit, and sense of humor. Her bright, sunny demeanor endeared her to her family and attracted many loyal friends and new acquaintances, bringing joy and laughter into their lifes. Friends and family will remember, fondly, that Mickie was a shining star in their lives and her radiance will remain with them forever. A private family memorial service will be held after a scattering of ashes at sea. It is suggested that any memorial donations be made to the American Lung Association.
