Uncle Bud
R.D. Mote was a slow walking, slow talking, tall drink of Texas well water. “Yep,” “Nope,” “Aw, shucks ma’am,” that was him. A Gary Cooper character in the flesh. I got to know him a little better when he moved to San Diego and began working in the pipe trades. He was the same man on the job as he was at home: kind, gentle, easy to know, easier to like. Everyone who knew him will miss him. I know I already do.

My fondest memory of my Uncle Bud is his voice. That rich deep Texas drawal. When ever I think of him thats what I hear in my head. I remember how kind and gentle he was and I will miss him.
Till we meet again in heaven.
Love you

R. D. Mote, Jr. is my brother in the truest form of the word. For the first fourteen or fifteen years of my life, he was known to all of us as "Boy". He grew up fast and strong, pretty much like the song, "A Boy Named Sue" as sung by Johnny Cash. I know I needed more discipline than he ever gave me as an older brother, but he was never over-bearing in the slightest way. He was truly a kind and gentle soul.
My desire is to never lie, never steal, never cheat, and never welch on a debt. My brother lived this way all the days of his life.
He was a California Free and Accepted Mason and was a Steamfitter by trade. After he was a grown man his name switched from Boy to Bud. I am not really sure how this came about, but he has been known as Bud Mote for the last sixty-five years. It would please me so much if I truly thought I had been as good a brother to him as he has been to me, but some how I doubt it.
So long for now, Boy. Bud, I'll see you soon. Love you, Bill

I have known R.D., Bud, Skinny, Ardan, the calf roper, musician, professional dancer, husband, father, and friend for 65 years. I met him at my school bus stop in 1940. He was handsome, well-built, and friendly. Three years later, he became my brother-in-law who was closer than a brother.
Bud taught dancing lessons, and I particularly enjoyed dancing the Rumba with him. Bill and I always enjoyed Bud, Isabell, Becky, and Doug's visits in our home. R.D. will be greatly missed by our whole family whether it is singing and playing, riding horses, roping calves, playing games, gathering pecans, or just eating beans and cornbread.
You have made the final step in this incarnation! Congratulations!
Love you, Olga Bullock Mote

I remember R.D. as a handsome, strong, proud, erect, kind man. He was one of those guys you dreamed about after reading some of those romance novels. I have not had the privilege of seeing him in many years, but I remember Isabell and R.D. as the beautiful, exciting couple that everyone admired when they were on the dance floor. His memory will linger on. Joy Crawford

My dear sweet Uncle Bud one of the stalwarts of my life, happy reunion with loved ones in that wonderful spiritual world where you now reside. Uncle Bud was always one of my main heroes and when reading a book he was the good guy with the white hat, tall, dark, handsome and absolutely true blue. He was gentle, kind, loved children, loved his family and was great with animals. He was also a fantastic dancer where he could express himself on those light feet of his and was as handsome as Clark Gable ever could be… He had a deep spiritual side to him and lived his belief in his daily life. He helped some of us “younguns” get our steps firmly planted on “THE PATH”. He used to wake me up on Sunday morning and tell me to get ready for church where we would go listen to the sermon at the Swedenborgian Church, now called The New Christian Church, in San Diego. What a foundation for life’s great journey! We will meet in “the sweet bye and bye” my dear, so wait for all of us and greet us when we cross over…I will always remember you and love you. Your niece Jody Bray, Rancho Santa Fe, CA.

The one thing that I will always remember about Uncle Bud, was his deep, gentle laughter. A laughter so warm that it made me feel like everything is all right. I'll think of him churning homemade peach ice cream in Grandy's driveway, playing guitar and singing the gospel, and the few times I was fortunate to dance with him and his award-winning style. I can still hear the slow and loving way he said "Mama" when speaking to, or about Grandy. He is with her and Grandpop now, and surely happy. The bedrock of my life is slowly but surely chipping away, person by person, but the foundation up which this family is based, that of love, respect, hard work, trust, and God, will live on and continue to support me and all of the family through the generations to come. Good-bye Uncle Bud. Thank you for your part in my life. Your loving greatniece. Debbie.

I will always remember R.D. as quite The Mote... loving, caring, trusting and fun.
My most fond memmory with him was back on the Texas Farm, when he actually rode on the back of the motorcycle while I drove him around the farm. It explains his character in its entirety, the fact that he trusted a 13 year old to drive him around on such a death trap. It was the first real opportunity for me to get to know my Great Uncle, and Great he was.
His and my Grandfathers rememberences they shared with me together, of growing up in Texas will be cherished forever. Rest in Peace R.D. - I'm sure we'll meet again.
