ROBERT LANGHORST Obituary

LANGHORST,
ROBERT HENRY
Robert Henry Langhorst, 73, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday July 13, 2009.
Robert was a San Diego native born in 1936. He grew up in the famous San Diego family restaurant "Langhorst Cafe" on the waterfront. Graduate of Hoover High, he married his wife Georgia in 1967.
Bob served in the Army as a newspaper reporter in Germany. He worked as chef for the family business. He was very active in his home parish of St. Pius X in Chula Vista. He was very active in many service clubs especially Optimist International where he served as International vice president.
His tireless work with childhood cancer gave way for the forming of the Success Optimist group which transformed the Kaiser Zion pediatrics wing into a virtual rainforest. He received the 10 News Leadership award for his efforts in 2008.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia; his son, Rob, and his daughter Beth.
Vigil will be on Monday, July 20th, at 7 p.m with Services on July 21st, at 10 a.m. Both will be held at St. Pius X church in Chula Vista. Following the Service, he will be laid to rest at Glen Abbey Cemetery in Bonita.

Dear Mrs. Langhorst, Beth, and Robbie--

I will always have terrific memories of Mr. Langhorst. He was my confirmation sponosr, chauffeur to school, a fantastic cook (especially that chicken!), and a good friend. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.

Georgia and family: We will always have fond memories of hanging out in your family kitchen, peeling apples, etc in order to put together all those apple strudels for the parish bazaars. We will miss the large batches of clam chowder Bob always made for the Lenten soup kitchens. But it wasn't really about the food. It was about enjoying his friendship, appreciating how he made us always feel comfortable, and listening to him laugh and kid around with all of us. Between the roses in the front yard and the birds in the house and backyard, there was always plenty to admire and enjoy when you visited the Langhorsts. Those memories of Bob, and many more, will always make us smile.
