Robert Schnell Obituary

Robert Schnell, 71 ESCONDIDO -- Robert Schnell "Bob" died peacefully in his sleep Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Palomar Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Bob was born May 16, 1939 in Missouri, but from the age of five he called San Diego and Escondido home. Bob began his educational career as a teacher for the Escondido Union School District, moving into the position of school psychologist before retiring at the age of 59. After retiring, he was able to enjoy traveling, and time at home with his wife, Nancy. He could also be found on the courts enjoying his passion for tennis several days a week, playing with his son Craig, or one of his many great friends. Bob's survival of colon cancer seven years ago had given him a perspective on life that all of us can admire, the ability to enjoy the beauty and gift of each day. His recent diagnosis of cancer did not deter his optimistic outlook and contagious smile. His heart remained full of love for his family and friends. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; son, Craig; daughter, Stephanie and son-in-law, Scott Childress; granddaughters, Carly and Cassidy Childress- "Grandpa's Girls;" sisters, Ruth Bradley and Betty (Roy) Crawford; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Services will be held Saturday, November 13th at 11 a.m. at Mission Hills Church in San Marcos. A lunch reception and celebration of his life will follow at the Escondido home of Scott and Stephanie Childress. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made the Children's Ministry at Mission Hills Church, or to the American Cancer Society. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

Dearest Childress and Schnell Family, My deepest prayers are with you all. Although I experienced but a few encounters with Bob, each one was like a breath of fresh air. His positive energy, sincere eyes, and kind words always lifted my spirits. His bright light will continue to shine through his gracious children and darling grandchildren.

He was a great "DAD" figure to me growing up when mine wasn't around and for that I am grateful. I enjoyed the countless hours spent at his home, going to activities and even to the desert! And through his endless teasing of me I always knew he cared about me. Thanks for the memories.

Please accept my sympathy for the loss of Bob. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow. I had the opportunity to work with Bob while I was teaching at Orange Glen. He always supported the students and teachers. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
