ROGER GREGG Obituary

GREGG, ROGER DALE July 13, 1949 to June 13, 2011 Roger Gregg was a resident of Bonita, California. After a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer, Roger passed away peacefully at his home in Bonita on Monday, June 13th. Roger was born and raised in Chula Vista and graduated from Chula Vista High School in 1967. He spent the last 35 years of his life as a general contractor. He was a successful athlete, huge sports fan, and advocate of youth sports. From 1978-1984, Roger volunteered as a little league baseball coach, then went on to coach high school baseball and football at Chula Vista High School from 1986-1994. After coaching high school sports, he had the opportunity to coach his grandson's little league baseball team. He was one of two children born to the late Richard and Sue Gregg and was the loving husband of Wynette Pickett Gregg for over 40 years. Roger will forever be remembered by his beloved son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Noreen Gregg; treasured grandchildren, Cameron and Kyle Gregg; devoted sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Clark Liedike and caring mother-in-law, Edee Urbach, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him. He touched the lives of many by his generosity, intelligence and smile. Roger had a great sense of humor and enjoyed being with his family until the very end. Honoring Roger's request, services will not be held.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Gregg family...Coach Gregg was one of the best role models a kid could have growing up. I can still remember my days on the Pirates with Brandon and Coach Gregg at CVNLL and the Pre-Game dinners at the Gregg House before our CVHS football games. The impact his words and actions as my coach, mentor and stand-in dad have carried on with me through life...You will be missed by many...

Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and Edee on the loss of Roger. It seems 35 years goes by in a wink. Have known many men who were coached by Roger, via them working Summers at Coca Cola. The stories and laughs were priceless. He had a direct infuence on their lives. Knew at your wedding, when pronounced husband and wife, it was a union which would last. through time.

To the Gregg Family:
Our heart goes out to you. We will never forget Coach Gregg, who would make us focus on the game with just one look. That made us and everyone he coached not just respect baseball but everything else life threw us. Guys like Gregg, Navarro, Larson, Kennedy, Chapman, Barcus and many others shaped us to be what we have become. Thanks Roger! Carlos Navarro (P) & Dave McVey (SS)

Wynette, Brandon, Paula & Family,
We are truly saddened and grieved to hear of Roger's passing. Ron said when he was in high school, Roger was someone he really looked up. He also said he always thought Roger & Wynette were the perfect couple. We enjoyed our time together when we were involved in Pop Warner & CVHS football. We will always remember what a honest, hard working man Roger was. May God comfort you during this time of sorrow.

Love, Ron & Luanne DeLane,

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Roger. I know what it is like to lose a husband, mine passed away in Jan. Wynette and family remember all the good times and look back and cherish each moment now the last two years. My love and prayers to you and the family.

Roger was a stand-up,all around guy that I looked up to, admired and respected. You could not find a more lovable husband, father, father-in law or grandfather.I had the privilage of working with him and his son for at least 20 years as a subcontractor. He was, without a doubt, one of the most honest, thoughtfull, likeable men I've been around in my lifetime. They really don't come around that often anymore. My prayers go out to Wynette,Son and family.

My condolences go out to the Gregg family. Growing up in Chula Vista we were lucky enough to have many larger than life role models. Roger was one of them. To this day, if i see a kid get eaten up by a ground ball I yell out "That was Chicky Chicky kid". Sad day for Chula Vista.

Sorry to hear about Roger's passing. We were good friends though I hadn't seen in many years. We grew up together our parents playing cards every week. Both of our families spent lots of time water skiing in the bay when we were kids.
