Roland Sahm Obituary

SAHM, ROLAND RICHARD Roland Richard Sahm, 85, passed away January 25, 2003, in his home in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Survivors include his wife, Ramona of Rancho Santa Fe; son Doug of Rancho Santa Fe; sisters, Mildred Walton and Marjorie Rornig both of Boulder, Colo.; brother, Ralph of Estes Park, Colo.; grandchildren, Roland and wife Melanie of Jupiter, Fla., Douglas of Jupiter, Fla., and Chris and wife Michelle of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Abagail, Charles and Velvet; many other family members. Memorial services will be held Friday, January 31, at 2 p.m. in the Village Church, 6225 Paseo Delicias, Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Roland loved the outdoors, golfing, the horse races and a good poker game, but most of all enjoyed his morning walk around the property he owned in Rancho Santa Fe. His competitive, kind and humorous spirit were a constant reminder of a man who loved life. Roland was born November 19, 1917, in Boulder, Colo., and set off for California with his new bride in the thirties. He arrived in California and after several failed business attempts, he started a company that is still thriving today. Elixiri Industries was formed in 1948, and through the years of hard work and perseverance built a corporation into one of the largest privately held companies in California. In 1969, he took the company public. Several years later, not being happy with the way it was being handled, he bought the company back in 1982, assuming incredible debt, and started over. Through the 80 ' s and 90 ' s he guided the company into a vibrant, diversified and profitable company that today has more than 1200 employees and 17 manufacturing locations in 12 states. He was an integral part in the companies operations until the day he passed away. He will be missed dearly and our thoughts will be with him always.
