Ruth Shoemaker Obituary

SHOEMAKER, RUTH M.
Ruth M. Shoemaker passed away April 14th after a long illness, leaving a large and loving family, many friends, and her fellow members of the Daughters of the Nile, Mecca Temple #34. She will be greatly missed by all. Mrs. Shoemaker was born in 1923 in Missouri, grew up in Ohio, and was a long-time resident of Chula Vista. She was especially proud of her service in the Cadet Nurse Corps during the WWII era, and of her career as a Registered Nurse and teacher of nursing. After moving to San Diego, she cared for patients at Hillside Hospital for several years. Possessing a warm heart, a keen intelligence, a fine sense of humor, and a fund of common sense, Mrs. Shoemaker acted as a formal and informal leader and mentor for her family, her friends, and in her volunteer organizations. She attended the Community of Christ Church; her quiet but strong faith was a living example. She is preceded in death by her loving husband "Shoe." Six grateful children, Faye, Marie, Dean, Marty, Fred, and Dan; and many grand- and great-grandchildren remain to cherish her memory. Services at Greenwood Mortuary, Salli Lynn Chapel, 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19th. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com

It was a joy to know Ruth as a Past Queen of the Daughters of the Nile. She was a gracious lady and has been greatly missed during her illness. I had a wonderful chat with her at Fredericka in March.

May God grant you comfort in her passing.
