Samuel Moore Bud' Templeton III November 27, 1928 - September 4, 2016 San Diego Samuel Moore Templeton III "Bud" was born November 27, 1928 in Oakland, California, Sam had two brothers, (William and David) and one sister, (Nora Lou) who were born to Samuel Moore Templeton II, and Margaret "Elaine" Templeton. They moved to San Diego with infant Bud, where Bud played baseball at Hoover High School. He enlisted in the US Army, 7th Cavalry with several lifelong and high school buddies. He served as post-occupation troops in WWII Japan. After his service in the army, Sam was a tile setter for seven years. He met and married his wife Barbara in 1957 and became instant daddy to Barbara's two orphaned children, Cynthia and Christopher Janise. Sam was hired by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department where he served from 1957 until 1978, and retired at the rank of Lieutenant. Sam was in charge of setting up the San Diego S.W.A.T. team and also ran the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Academy. He was also the watch commander at the downtown jail. Sam also served as Senior Investigator for the Del Mar Racetrack Thoroughbred Club for 28 years. Sam's favorite pastimes were horse racing and traveling with his wife Barbara. Bud and Barbara had two sons, Charles married to Sheryl and Paul married to Rachel. Sam had grandchildren, Derrick with his wife, Ligaya, Tiffani, Wade, Colton, Ciara, Hannah, Adam, and two great-grandchildren, Lillian and Miles. Sam passed quietly at home while watching his horse races on Sunday, September 4, 2016. Sam and Barbara were lovingly married for 59 years. Services will be held at El Cajon Cemetery on Friday, September 23rd 2016 at 10:30 a.m., 2080 Dehesa Rd., El Cajon, CA 92019. A reception/celebration of life will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hall at 13208 Lakeshore Dr., Lakeside, CA 92040.
