Shane Greene Obituary

Shane Tyler Greene January 21, 1993 to January 2, 1998 The Shaneman Shane was a man of action who loved his superheroes, Spiderman, Batman, and the Power Rangers. He dressed like Batman one day, the Power Rangers the next, with maybe a Spiderman outfit in between. As one of the neighbors said, "He was the best Batman in cowboy boots that I ever saw." Shane made sure that the universe was safe from the archenemies and for that reason, he always kept a sword or two close by. He patrolled the neighborhood on his big wheel in full Viking dress, including helmet, chest armor, gloves, a sword on each hip, and cowboy boots on backwards. Of course, the handlebars were turned backwards to match his Viking horns. He was always ready for a sword fight or a gun fight. In fact, Shane's friend, Tanner, wrote in a note that he brought to the house that "One day, a long time from now, there will be some great sword fights in Heaven." His friend, Casey, on the other hand, said that "Unless there is plenty of ice cream in Heaven, Shane won't be hanging with God much." He did love ice cream, and we're sure God has plenty. He was a man of action and loved his cowboy boots. He christened his friend David's new house with black boot marks running the entire length of the stairway wall because a man of action jumps, not walks, down the stairs. Sometimes jumping feet just can't stay off the walls. Shane and his brother, Brett, had to do battle sometimes, and though he was the younger and overmatched physically, he would wait until Mom broke up the fight, then take one more retaliatory swing at his brother's unguarded back and say "That's what you get." He would always take a moment out from his superhero exploits to plant a quick kiss on his mother's cheek. Roller hockey in the street was a favorite pastime. His job as goalie and protector of the recycle bin was taken very seriously. He would practice by himself in full protective gear and if he fell, he would quickly look around to see if anyone saw him fall. John, his neighbor, would try not to notice. Shane got a lot out of life every day. The job of Shaneman the superhero on this earth was to remind all of us to live today fully with enthusiasm, protect the universe, vanquish the archenemies, punch your brother once in awhile, and kiss your mother. Precious child your are forever in our hearts. After ten long years we miss and love you! Mom, Brett, and Tyler Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

I was visiting my 89 year old mother in SD when I read your wonderful celebration of Shanes life. Your tribute is a reminder to us all that life is also about the memories we leave behind. Thank you Mom Bret and Tyler and thank you Shane.

This is written very well and of course I cried…still crying. Reading the story about Shane was something very different than usual and I liked hearing about a day in the life of Shane Tyler Greene. I hope you are doing okay today. I want you to know that I am thinking about you.

Michelle, when I read the wonderful tribute article you put in the paper about Shane, it brought back memories of ten years ago. It is an incident that will never go away from any of us.I hope you continue to treasure those wonderful memories and enjoy the new ones being made by Brett and Tyler. God Bless you now and always.

Shane used to follow me around at Grandma's house in Vista. He was always dressed up and ready to reenact some great battle. I still get all choked up when I think about him. I know you miss him more than all of us put together. I need to remember his great zest for life, especially when I am so stressed out with school and stuff. Just to live, and love the people around you, is soooo sweet! I love you guys so much, I wish I was there more often. Kiss the boys for me!

Shane you were quite the guy. Full of fun and full of life and a great person to have "guarding the fort"(as they say here in Cowboy Country). We think of you often and miss you. Love the O'Briens in your Stampede City.

As I write the tears are flowing down my face. I'd like to say the pain is less over time but it would be a lie, it feels as if it where yesterday in my heart. Shane 's sweetness and gentile spirit is so missed by all of us. The only comfort is in knowing he is with God and that someday we will be together again. I know that grandma Jessie is playing with him and that he's getting lots of hugs and kisses. Shane I miss you and love you so much sweet boy. XOXOXO Auntie Andrea
