Steves humor will be missed. Banting back and forth was a sport he enjoyed and had fun with.

I knew Steve from CalCPA; served on Council with him and on a couple of state committees. I iwll miss him and the poems he crafted to wrap up the council meetings. I always learned something new when I talked to him.

I remember Steve fondly -- especially his good humor. He cared about KPBS and gave immense amounts of time and expertise to the station over the years. We will miss him.

I had known Steve since our high school days.Although we maintained only intermittent contact since that time,it was always like no time had passed at all on those occasions we would see one another.Steve felt close to his former classmates and would keep me up to date about them.I will always remember those conversations and of course the humor that was ever present with whatever Steve had to say.Steve was a man with a good heart.Goodbye my friend.May you rest in peace.

February 28, 2008

I always enjoyed chatting with Steve and greatly appreciated his good humor during our KPBS pledge drives. He will be missed by many at the station.

It seems like yesterday that Steve and Gloria were managing the KPBS auction. We couldn't have done it without them. They were incomparable volunteers. Steve was a wonderful, generous man. He left a huge imprint on KPBS and all of us who worked with him.

February 28, 2008

Steve was one of KPBS' most capable and reliable volunteers, and always a joy to work with. He outlasted the tenure of multiple volunteer coordinators, me being one of them. Although I'm no longer in that role, it saddens me to know that Steve is no longer around. He was a great guy, and he made a major contribution.

I am so sorry to hear of Steve's passing--it seems so strange that someone so exuberantly full of life could leave us without his quick smile and booming presence. I enjoyed working with him during KPBS pledge and will think of him often when I look at the volunteers in the phone banks. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

During my many years at KPBS Steve was always one of my favorite volunteers. From the Auction days on through his last visit to the studio Steve was always quick with a smile and greeting. You will be missed my friend...fade to black and roll credits.

My thoughts are with your family. Steve was a KPBS volunteer for many years and had a great impact on me. He had a larger than life personality and was truly a lovely person.

February 26, 2008

Steve was one of the first volunteers I met when starting as volunteer coordinator at KPBS. The previous coordinator had been here for years and they were hard shoes to fill. While many volunteers really put me to the test Steve instead sat me down, gave me a history of his years with the station, and welcomed me with open arms. He advised me, always gave a helping hand and most importantly made me laugh. I could be exhausted & stressed out and he had a way of helping me to relax and see the brighter side of every situation. He and his emails will be greatly missed. He truly was a very special person.

Steve and I were close friends in high school. Steve always had a big smile, quick wit, and sage opinions. Steve loved sports. I remember watching him play on the basketball team. I remember knitting Steve a pair of socks that had a basketball hoop design. The net on the design was in long white angora yarn. I suspect he never shared that with his teammates! Steve and I went to the senior prom together. He wore a white tuxedo with a red bow tie and hanky. He was a tall and striking young man.

Our most sincere condolences on Steve's passing. In addition to our professional (tax preparer-payer) relationship, we've enjoyed our the non-tax discussions and emails with Steve. He was a man of diverse interests from baseball to folk music. (He would have been a great stadium announcer for the Padres.) We will miss him greatly. Please advise if there will be any memorial service.

Steve's humor was legendary. His humorous second language skills were unique...Bakers-burg and Gob-bin-mint were some of the favorites. No doubt, he is trading jokes with St. Peter as we write. Keep'em laughing my friend.

February 22, 2008

I was in Steve's '61 Class at Crawford and I remember him as a gentle person that I looked up to. I did not do well in my studies, when I even studied, but he inspired me to believe I could do better. Steve helped me to beleive College might be different and it was. Thanks Steve : )

Steve,
As an angel looking down at those you left behind, you can now see what you were probably too modest to see while here with us. Your honesty and intellect challenged each of us to work harder for the good of others which we will continue to do in your honor. I will also always remember that no matter how harsh the debates were at CalCPA council meetings, you brought us all together after the meeting with your fun-loving spirit. You made a deep positive impact on so many people. We will miss you.

Dale Bender

February 22, 2008

Steve was a character. His posting were a source of humor for me, since he on numerous occasions referred my home town as "Bakers-burg" and the US "gob-bin-mint' while I would proudly tag him with a "big foot" icon. Our exchanges via email would be out right gut splitting hilarious. He's probably trading jokes with St Peter as I write. What an individual!!

Although I did not know him well, I remember Steve from high school. He had a way of being big and doing things in a big way so that his influence and inspiration spread out readily to others, and he drew people to himself for noble purposes. He was a good man and an easy one to admire.

We will all miss Steve's sense of humor and vigilent monitoring of the CPA listserves, where he would remind us that it's not all as serious as we sometimes make it out to be. I chatted with Steve from time to time at CPA functions and learned that his cousin John and I were fraternity bro's at SDSU many moons ago. I will miss Steve.

The intellectual opinion, the professional wisdom, and the uninterested friendhip lost one of their most adamant cavaliers. CalCPA and the profession will not be same without you. I did not get to know you very well, but knew you well enough to know that your presence will be sorely missed. God Bless you.

Always positive, always ready to provide encouragement or a silly poem, always willing to share his knowledge and experience, Steve was everything that is right about the CPA profession. Thank you, Uncle Stevie, for all you have done for the profession in general and me specifically. I'm going to miss you immensely.
