Steven Earl Vittitow

Vittitow, Steven Earl SAN DIEGO -- Steven Earl Vittitow, 58, passed away on April 14, 2015 after a courageous 3-month battle with cancer. Born in Louisville, KY on July 29, 1956, Steven was the oldest son of Sharon Ann Norris Vittitow and the late Earl Leon Vittitow of Louisville, Kentucky. In addition to his mother, Steven is survived by his husband, Kenneth Kurzendoerfer, who he had loved and cherished for 25 years. The couple has resided in San Diego, California for the past 16 years. Steven was a devoted husband and a friend to many. He will be remembered for his humble generosity and a unique sense of humor that brought so much laughter and joy. He was an avid golfer, and was a trained chef who loved to cook and entertain. He and Ken supported the work of Mama's Kitchen in San Diego. Steven is also survived by four sisters, Nancy Vittitow (Joe), Pamela Vittitow Byerly (Terry), Donna Vittitow Jacobi (Tim), Vickie Vittitow Bowles (Dan); and a brother, Daryl Vittitow (Angel). Survivors also include father and mother -in-law, Egbert and Rita Kurzendoerfer; sister- in-law, Theresa Kurzendoerfer Smith (Tom); and brother- in-law, Paul Anthony Kurzendoerfer (Vivian). Steven was loved and admired by all of his nieces and nephews, but was particularly devoted to his great-nephew, Chase Gravatte. He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Denise Vittitow Tompkins. He will be greatly missed by his family and a host of friends in Kentucky and California who will mourn his passing. At Steven's request, a private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers and other memorials, the family requests that contributions be made to the National Leukemia And Lymphoma Society or to Mama's Kitchen in San Diego.
