As kids, we spent hours down at Ricky and Susie's house, with Sylvia always nearby, as we played and sometimes got into mischief. Sylvia was a "different" mom...she was never "too busy" to engage in whatever we needed to tell her or have her watch, no matter what. She was relaxed, always smiling, and very slow to get mad, in fact I can never remember that she ever got mad, even when we got into trouble. It was a happy place at the Sherwood's house, and I was lucky I lived up the street. Just smiling as I type this right now, Sylvia was a love. Fred Wise

When I saw the name "Sylvia Sherwood" pop up in my Gmail, I immediately smiled. That is how I remember Sylvia; always smiling, always loving and always caring more about the other person than herself. We can all use her life as a model of compassion and love.

Our Dearest Sylvia:
You blessed me with your strength, your love for the Lord and your unending TRUST that the LORD would hold you in the Palm of HIS HAND till you met HIM Face to Face. The times of prayer, reading the bible and sharing what HEAVEN will be like is a treasure I keep close to my heart. Until we meet again dear friend!

In our early years in Long Beach, on Los Flores Street, Sylvia was a lot like our second mom, a house where we could always go to visit and get a smile, hug and maybe even cookies. We felt welcome and loved, and we never got in trouble - we wanted be good because Sylvia was so nice!
As Sylvia neared the end, she maintained a rare trait for anyone, especially someone with medical issues - she NEVER wanted to talk about herself and her "stuff", she always turned the conversation to you, family, life, and better things. Positive all the way, she only had gifts to bring to this world, and I celebrate the rare and special person she was.
Love, Fred and Karen Wise

I grew up just down the street from Sylvia on Los Flores St. in Long Beach. Even as a youngster I loved her joyful voice and kind spirit. I talked with her just a couple of months ago on the phone and she still had that melodic and happy voice even though she was deep in the dying process. She only asked me about my family and did not dwell on her own lot. What a gal!
