Thomas Ryan Cleary March 23, 1962 - May 26, 2018 San Diego Tom Cleary worked with the University of San Diego for 13 years serving as a liaison to elected officials, government agencies, neighbors, local community organizations and national education associations. Tom was president and a five-term executive board member of the Linda Vista Town Council and was a nine-year member of the Linda Vista Planning Board including three terms as chair. He also served as chair of the Linda Vista Collaborative, a network of local social service providers. Prior to joining USD in 2004, Tom served on the staff of various elected officials in Congress, California State Assembly and the San Diego City Council over a 20-year period and as a public relations consultant in the private sector. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from San Diego State University and was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. During his high school years, he attended the Midland Academy in Los Olivos, CA. Tom was married to Donna Cleary for nearly 30 years and was father to Brendan and Jack who attend USD and daughter, Becky who attends high school in Scripps Ranch. Tom's passion included his children, genealogy, writing, listening to Dropkick Murphys and classical music while enjoying a good beer and fine whiskey. Tom is survived by his mother, Marcella Cleary (98, of La Costa), sisters Nancy Mennuti (PA) and Betsy Cleary, and brothers Robert Cleary (Atlanta, GA) and Kevin Cleary (VA). His father Robert Owen Cleary and brother John Cleary are deceased. Tom will have a Celebration of Life on Thursday, June 7th at 2 PM in the Immaculata located at the University of San Diego.
