Thomas Thale Obituary

Thomas Reid Thale II August 18, 1956 - December 19, 2018 San Diego Husband, father, son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, Thomas Reid Thale II, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2018, surrounded by the love of family and friends. His death followed a courageous twenty-five month battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of over twenty years, Mary Peshel; beloved children, Daniel (Lindsey), Diana, and Michael; mother, Christine Pare'; sister, Lorie Thale; aunts, uncles, many cousins, and countless friends and relatives who remember his warm smile, gracious nature, and love of life.
Thom was born at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco to Thomas Thale and Christine Washburn Thale. In 1958, the family moved back to San Diego where Thom attended school and graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1974. During his youth, Thom was involved in many activities including the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed playing with his dogs, camping, fishing, swimming, and sailing in the bay. His appreciation of family began at an early age. Gatherings with family and friends for patio and pool parties were always happy times for Thom. As an adult, Thom continued exploring new activities including surfing, cycling, photography, and wine.
Thom had a variety of part-time jobs during his teenage years. Those experiences gave him a strong work ethic, sense of independence, and spirit of generosity. While attending San Diego State University, Thom began a part-time job at a local bank. This experience led him to a long and successful career as a Trust Officer. In 2005, Thom left the corporate banking world to establish his own company, ProFiduciary. After twenty-five years of excellent training and valuable experience at various financial institutions, he achieved his professional goal and became a private fiduciary. Today, his firm is one of the largest and most respected private fiduciary firms in San Diego. As Thom built the firm, he added a team of highly qualified professionals, including his son, Dan. Integrity is the single most important asset of the firm. At Thom's request, the current team at ProFiduciary will continue to serve clients.
The greatest joy in Thom's life was the time spent with his family. He was a devoted husband and proud father. He strongly supported his children's activities in and out of school, including Little League, ballet, music, theater, cross country, and track. Home was filled with family, friends, good food and fun. Thom welcomed guests of all ages with his warmth and wit.
A highlight for the family was time spent together on vacations to a variety of locations including Hawaii, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, New York, London and Paris. Kauai has been a family destination most summers. Thom fell in love with Hawaii as a teenager. Over time he became famous for his large collection of Hawaiian shirts. At last count he had fifty two, one for every week of the year. The entire family embraced the Aloha spirit with Thom leading the way. Aloha, Thom. We love you. You are always in our hearts.

My heartfelt condolences to Mary, Dan, Michael and Diana, and to Tom's work Family at ProFiduciary.

Thanks, Tom, for representing the Fiduciary profession so well. Your leadership brought positive awareness to all who serve in this challenging work. You inspired me to get my Certified Trust and Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation. I appreciate everything I've learned from you.
