Todd Plischke Obituary

Todd William Plischke 03/07/1986 ~ 11/03/2010 FALLBROOK -- Todd Plischke passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, after a sudden illness. He was a Special Education Student in Fallbrook Schools and was in the Fallbrook High School Class of 2004. After high school, Todd attended classes in Oceanside and Mira Costa College. He was living in a group home in Vista the last three years of his life and loved his new independence. Many great friendships and experiences developed throughout his life in Fallbrook and in Vista. North Coast Church was his home every Sunday morning. Todd was very active in any sport in which he could participate. He was particularly fond of horseback riding at REINS. An avid car enthusiast, Todd loved going to the drag races at Pomona, NASCAR races at Fontana, and sprint car races at Perris. Padre and Charger games were on the top of his list as well. He was a participant in Special Olympic sports including skiing at Big Bear Mountain, bowling, golf, softball, and basketball. Walking in the Carlsbad 5000 was also a great source of pride for him. When not participating in sports, he would watch them on TV, listen on the radio, and use the computer to pick up any detail he might have missed. Todd lived a great life and faced each day with a big smile, loads of humor, and much enthusiasm. A walk on the beach or am train ride to see his sister, Allison, filled his heart with excitement. He touched the lives of many people in our community. Especially memorable for him was his participation on the Fallbrook High School Varsity Football Team as their manager. He was an inspiration to them and their greatest fan. His # 12 Jersey was retired at the end of his senior year. Todd was always "the twelfth man" on the team. Todd will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. His final act of kindness was to join the organ donor program with hopes of helping out a new friend somewhere. He is survived by his grandmother, Nicole Plischke; his mother and father; his sister, Allison Stewart and husband, Nathan; and a very loving and supportive family. A memorial is planned for him at 9 a.m., on Saturday, November 20, at North Coast Church, 2405 No. Santa Fe Ave., Vista. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to REINS Therapeutic Horsemanship Program, P.O. Box 1283, Bonsall, Calif. 92003. Sign the Guest Book online obits.nctimes.com

Our family felt a kinship with Todd from the moment we met him, which was when he was very little - at Warner Springs Ranch. We had many delightful weekends with him and his family there, but probably the memory which stands out most in my mind is when we were camping in Borrego and decided to take the Palm Canyon Hike....it's filled with rocks and a bit treacherous and Todd was doing his best to navigate the terrain, but was SO happy when Morey Sherman offered to sling him over his shoulders and finish the trek.... Watching him on Morey's shoulders with a HUGE smile on his face is a memory I'll never forget..... What a tribute he and his life were to you, Jan and Denise and Allison.....

I've only had the privilege of knowing Todd for about a year. In that short year, he brought more sunshine into my life than I could have ever imagined one individual could. He taught me to live life to the fullest and in the moment. His smile and hugs will be missed. It was an honor to know him.

We were neighbors of Todd's when we lived in Fallbrook. We had a New Year's Day party and Todd sure enjoyed our green chile stew which was pretty darned spicy (he won the heart of the cook, my husband). When my sister-in-law and brother-in-law came to visit, they liked their beer and knew they were going to make Todd very, very happy with all the aluminum cans they had saved up for him. We were lucky to know him and our thoughts are with all of you.

I had the great and humble honor of being Todd's Principal during his years at Fallbrook High School. I will never be able to look back at those wonderful years without remembering him on those sidelines cheering for his Warriors! I called him "Todd the Mod" and it really cracked him up. We were a better school and community with Todd on board and he will be greatly missed. As one of the speakers at his memorial so perfectly reflected... "I miss him in my heart." I think we all do...

Todd's sudden passing is such a loss to all of us who knew Todd's quick smile, loving warm embraces and unconditional love for everyone. He reminded me each and every time I saw him that life was to be lived, and not taken too seriously.. I loved making him laugh, and teasing him about how he loved to take over the TV remote, even when it 'wasn't his day' to do so.. and most fondly the time he, Ryan and I went for a burger, and he 'accidentially' ordered it with cheese - but he said 'It'll be our little secret..' Todd I will miss you immensely. Thank you for being such a good friend to my son Ryan.. and for the honor of having met such an extraordinary person ever in my life.. As we used to say to each other.. I love you..

I am really sad to hear about the passing of Todd. I knew him real well as I used to ride horses with him and also had a class with him at high school for one year. Then just recently I recognized at bowling and was on one of my teams. This all took me by surprised and he'll be missed.

Todd participated in a disabled sports group. One time we were on a field trip to the Birch Aquarium, when someone asked how many people were in our group. One of the kids jumped up and started counting, "One, two, three, twelve, eleven!" Todd, smirked and announced, "Well,I guess we know who didn't learn their numbers." Another time, we saw Todd standing on the side of the road with a huge pair of leather gloves on. We stopped to say "hi" and asked Todd what he was doing, His eyes sparkled and he told us it was trash day and he got to help the trash men. My point is, that not only did Todd find joy in everything he did, but he also shared his joy with others. Todd always made us smile.

Jan and Denise and Alison,
Todd was special from the day he was born. He conquered all of the challenges that life handed him and grew into a loving and kind young man. He touched the lives of so many people in his short time here on Earth. No one who ever met Todd walked away without a smile on their face. In the difficult days that are before you, may you take comfort in knowing that so many people are remembering Todd and missing him as well.

I was so sorry to hear of Todd's illness and passing. My first memories of Todd are from Challenger baseball in Fallbrook. My son's team volunteered to be "buddies" - to stand in the field with the players. Todd was Taylor's buddy, and Taylor enjoyed the experience so much he went back several times that season to be Todd's buddy. Taylor loved having Todd on the sidelines as the twelfth man during his senior year of football. One of his highlights was the game when Todd was chosen as a captain and went out on the field for the coin toss. We will keep the Plischke family in our prayers, and we will keep Todd in our hearts. God Bless.

I am so sad to hear this, but rejoicing in the fact that Todd is in Heaven with the Lord! I interviewed him for a story once and Todd was so excited about riding in an antique fire engine in a parade at Charger Stadium.

Before my first day working with Bob I was told by his sister that there was a student who helps Bob on the computer and would make it easier on me when it came to those kinds of things. Todd was extremely helpful when it came to helping Bob on the computer and calming him down in times of agitation. I am very greatful for all of Todd's help. He will truly be missed.
