It is so nice to hear all the warm comments from my Dad's former students and the impact he had on their lives.  We were very fortunate to have him close to us and to help care for him for the past 13 years. He never lost his quick wit even with all his medical issues, but he knew when the battle was over.  He became quite a fan of Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and crossword puzzles and I am sure he is actively searching for Alex Trebek.

Mr Billings was probably the best, smartest, funniest and most well rounded teacher I ever had. I had Mr. Billings for 11th grade chemistry in 1971. Now 50+ years later, I still remember and apply Mr Billings knowledge, and smile at Mr Billings hilarious tales. Thank you Mr Billings, thank you....

For me the space race started in Mr. Billings tenth grade science class 1957. He told us about the Soviet Union launching satellite sputnik. I had no clue what he was talking about. His information was big news.

One of the best teachers and one of the hardest classes I can remember having at any level. 11th grade Advanced Chemistry in the 62-63 school year. Walt Billings had a great sense of humor and irreverence. When Peter Falk starred as Lt. Columbo a few years later I thought they looked like twins. I've been in the Boston area aImost 40 years now and had not been aware he was from Boston and studied at BU and Harvard .... but it makes sense.

All my teachers were hero's, which I realized as I got older. Without the great education I received life would have been a constant struggle. But due to the knowledge and care the teachers gave their students, I am having a productive and wonderful life filled with God, Family and Friends. Thank you Mr. Billings. Mike Kennedy

He was my Science teacher 62-63, and, yes, we all enjoyed his humor, but he was a prankster as well. One morning, before school, he opened a bottle of Butyric Acid (he called it "Baby Barf") in the room, then watched as each class entered the room gagging and retching. Enjoyed talking about music when he discovered I was in the band.

I had Mr. Billings for Chemistry during the 1961-1962 school year. I may have squeezed out a B. At San Diego State we used the same textbook and I got an A. Kudos to Mr. Billings.
