Walt will be sorely missed by all he came to know. I knew him on the Connie when he was XO, and then he helped us out in the unmanned world later on this past year. It was great to get back together and catch up again. He was always happy to serve and totally upbeat.

My condolences to Walt's family and friends on his untimely passing. Walt's office at SPAWAR was just down the hall from mine, and he would often come in to talk business with my office mate. His friendly attitude and professional demeanor were a model for the rest of us. The pain we feel from his passing is a measure of his influence on family, friends, and co-workers. The reassurance of resurrection in 1 Corinthians 15 was a helpful reminder that Walt will be waiting for his family and friends, and we can be secure in the knowledge that Walt is now at peace, safely Home with God.

To Walt's family,
Please accept our deepest sympathies for your sudden and profound loss. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Heaven's gain is our loss, but someday we will be reunited and understand.
Until then, may God hold you close and provide peace that only He can give.
Walt's wonderful legacy of enthusiasm, fun and joy of living, and his pursuit of excellence made everyone around him better. Thank you for sharing him with so many so that they may become better, because they knew him.
You are all
in our thought and prayers.
May God hold you close always.

Sue, My thoughts and prayers are with you and the kids. I was so shocked to read about this the other day. I remember how great and encouraging he was when our daughter, Corey, first tried out for cross country. He was always there cheering Emily and the others on no matter where the meet was. I don't think I ever saw him without a smile upon his face. Just know that the Robinsons will always be there for the Ashbys anytime you need us. Take care, and God bless you, Emily and Erik.

Dear Sue, Emily and Erik,
Ella and I are shocked and sad. Walt had an interesting outlook on what makes the world go round. As a leader he believed in the people around him and if he could make their life better it would solve some of life's' mysteries. We will miss his smile.

I was deeply saddened when I heard the news about Walt's passing. I and my colleges had the pleasure to work with Walt in support of the Navy's P-8A and BAMS programs. Walt was always cheerful, upbeat and an absolute pleasure to work with. He will be missed. I offer prayers and support to his family and friends. On behalf of John Richardson, Dave Falk, Scott Osborne, please accept our deepest condolences.

I'm deeply saddened to just hear of the passing of "Bullet". Walt was one of my division officers when I was the Maintenance Officer of VAW-112 in the late 70's and I knew he had a great future ahead of him; he has definitely proven that. I have clear memories of his constantly upbeat demeanor and "can do" attitude whether at sea or ashore.
My sincere condolences to Sue and family.

I was shocked to hear today that Walt Joller passed away. He was my CDCO on the Connie then my boss at AIRPAC in 1999-2000. I retired from there with memories of a great shipmate and leader. I'm saddened that such a stellar person has left us to soon.
My thoughts and prayers to family, friends and shipmates.

My deepest sympathies. I knew Walt a long time back - from his days at VAW112 and RVAW110 in the mid and late 70's.
We spent some great times together. He was a respected "shipmate" and superb person. Its impossible to make this time better, but you should know how much Walt touched so many peoples lives, and the postive influence that he was.

It was with great shock and sadness that Prudy and I just learned of the tragic loss of one of the truly "good" guys of this world. Our hearts go out to Sue and the rest of the family and hope their grief is softened somewhat by the knowledge that they are not alone and that everyone who met and knew Walt share your loss. May your empty hearts be refilled by the love of friends and the happiness of a life well lived and one that touched so many. Walt will be missed but never forgotten.

Sue, just learned of this terrible, terrible tragedy. I'm flying tomorrow for the Friday service at Miramar. Walt was my XO and there's a special bond between an XO and AO on a carrier. He always made the tough jobs look easy and even in the hardest of evolutions he made it all fun. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Erik and Emily during this time. He was a very special person who will be sorely missed.

I am still in shock. I never thought John would leave before me. We served together in VAW-112. As my wife and daughter have already stated, he was more than a friend, he and Sue were the Godparents to our three children. We exchanged Christmas gifts each Christmas and became very close over the years. While John and I were on cruise, Sue helped Betsy through the birth of our second child, Kelly. I will never forget the four of us dressing up in bee costumes for a Squadron Halloween party. We always had the Poway 500 race on the way home. Whenever John would meet you in the hall, he would bump into you and make it look like an accident, usually from behind. I'll miss him sneaking up on me. We loved him and will greatly miss him. He will always be in our prayers.

Please let me send my condolances to the Walt's loved ones. He will be surely missed.
As a former classmate of Walt's at Joe's Collegiate in Buffalo,NY I am greatly sadened with his passing.
Walt was a mentor to me and I am sure my peers would say thay he represented the best of the La sallian of Spirit at St Joe's.
That said, I remember Walt for his love of live, his can do attitude, and his never say die view things. Although I thought he would be a Marine.
A few year ago we met after 25 year at a event honoring or high school coach Bob Ivory. Walt was the same as I remembered him but I was most touched in his pride in his bride and family.
Those of us who knew Walt will sure miss him.
Go Marauders!!!

Sue, Emily, and Erik, being periphery friends through Rob and Helaine, what a great family you created with Walt. Sue I always admired how you held down the fort while Walt was away and we always enjoyed hearing about his success at work and the job he was doing for our great nation! The best part about seeing the Catalanos when they were in town was to see you guys as well..Sue, I am so sorry for your loss yet see the amount of dear friends and colleagues coming forth to tell you how much loved that Walt Joller was to so many.
Kids you are seeing your Dads legacy because of how he lived his life and how he touched us all. GOD Bless you Walt and Sue and Emily and Erik..love, Anesh and Craig Speck

I worked with Walt at TACTRAGRUPAC, where it was always great to have his wisdom and wit on your side. On my first day here at SPAWAR, he greeted me with a man-hug, which again made me feel right at home. When you hear people say "Oh yeah, he's a great guy"...that's Walt. He will always be respected and forever missed.

This wonderful man was a great friend and the godfather to all three of my children, a job he took most seriously. Whomever John met along the way in his life, he left a lasting impression. His zeal for life was unmatched. His love for his family and friends unfathomable. I will miss him terribly, but my faith lets me know that John is in good hands now.

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children…to leave the world a better place…to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
My sister, brother and I knew him as Uncle John. He was our godfather and was an amazing man. He had succeeded in life and then some. Words cannot express how much he will be missed by his family and friends. Anyone with the honor of knowing him, can consider themselves blessed, for he truly was one of a kind and a remarkable soul. I always have been and always will be extremely grateful and proud to call him family. My family is heartbroken over this and he will be missed. We love you Uncle John.

I had just met John on one occasion at a Holiday party in Encinitas but I was touched by the offering of his business card for when I decided to begin my career after the Navy. He was obviously a remarkable man and Naval Officer to extend such an offer to a complete stranger.

I am profoundly saddened and even wounded that my great friend Walt (Johnny) Joller has been ripped away from us. I roomed with him at the boat school for 4 years and always hoped that I could get back to being his buddy as we got towards retirement. Apart from the large family that he had, there is a huge network of friends and shipmates that I am sure feel the same. My prayers are with Sue, Emily, and Erik. Although this is horrible and there is nothing good about it, I hope that God will bring something good out of this over time as a milestone to this great man.
