William Hostetler Obituary

Hostetler, William "Bill" 02/08/1945 ~ 10/31/2014 SAN DIEGO -- William Lewis 'Bill' Hostetler was born on February 8, 1945, to Dianne and William Hostetler in Long Beach, CA. He was the brother to Dian and Ronald. William lived life on the edge. His life will be marked by his deeds to the community and his choices, both positive and negative...William was the poster child of an intelligent man who sailed through life wherever the wind would take him, rarely looking over his shoulder... As a local San Diego educator, William worked hard to relay the joy of mathematics to those pupils willing to push their limits of understanding. William leaves this life having loved his family and anguished by his demons. His parting gift is cautionary; help is there to those who seek it, and you never have to be alone. His family learned to never give up even when he did. While we mourn his loss we know he is free from pain and resting on high with his family... William is survived by his sister, Dian; his son, David; and four grandkids.

Our family is sorry to hear of Bill's death. He and I agreed on many things and we disagreed on many things. Sometimes he would leave me with uncontrollable laughter. Sometimes he would leave me in a state of confusion or anger. He was so much smarter than the rest of the world. I never knew if he was telling me something beyond my comprehension or just telling me a story to see how much I would pretend to understand. Above all, I will remember him for his tender heart (which, I think, he tried to keep hidden) and his generosity. He was so proud of his family, especially his grandchildren. Be at peace, "Uncle Bill"

It is with great shock that I read this. Bill was a kind and caring person to myself and my kids. We will remember him for his kindness.
