William Stovall Obituary

William E. Stovall (age 99) passed away on May 17th in San Diego, CA. He was born on March 1, 1924 in Norfolk, VA to Ernie and Alice Stovall. Ernie, a chief machinist's mate in the Navy, moved his family, including Bill's younger brother Jim, to San Diego in 1929. Bill graduated from Grossmont High School in February 1941. He joined the Army Air Corps in December 1942 and served as an Engineer/Top turret gunner on a B-17 until his discharge in November 1945. He loved fishing and thought his career job was as a charter boat skipper, however he supplemented his income by working at Pacific Telephone for 32 years.
Bill and his wife Barbara married in 1948 and were married for 61 years before she passed in 2009. Upon Bill's retirement, they moved to the Wynola neighborhood near Julian, CA where they lived for 41 years. They are survived by their four children: Gary (wife Lori), Gay (husband Bill), Tom (wife Beth) and Joy. They also had two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A small family military service was held at Fort Rosecrans, where he will be interred next to his beloved wife Barbara.

I am almost 80, worked for Bill many years ago. I worked 30year before retiring as a District Manager. When I was a second level I worked for Bill. In my to years with the company and many bosses only two taught me how to be a more successful manager. Bill was one. He was always such a respected man. This was one of the monthly lunches of retirees in San Diego. That´s me next to Bill, Max Greserro passed a few years ago, Lowell Engel (my dear husband still with me) and Dave Gillespie, also passed. Bill was a gracious, professional, successful manager and a very good man. This is late because I just found this picture, researched and found Bill´s obit. So sorry for your loss.

I worked for Bill in the early 70's while he was a District Manager in Escondido. We was one of the finest men I ever worked for. I had read about Barbara's passing and had often wondered about Bill. So sorry for your loss. I'm sure he will be missed by all of the family.
