Abraham Nicolaas Jongeling

Abraham Nicolaas Jongeling, 74, passed away peacefully Friday, July 2, 2010. The eldest of 13 children, Bram was born in March 1936 in the Netherlands. His lifelong love of carpentry and building was inspired by his father and was polished during his childhood years at Don Bosco Trade School in Holland. Fate smiled upon Bram when, as a young man, he attended a church dance and met Maria, the woman who would become his wife. Soon the young Dutch couple emigrated to the United States and settled in Los Angeles, where they raised a family of four children. The hard-working Bram joined the Carpenter''s Union and founded his Dutch Carpentry Service and built a successful career as a general contractor. In 1990, after nearly 30 years in Los Angeles, Bram brought his wife and youngest daughter to Paso Robles, where he built them a sprawling hilltop home amidst 160 acres of blossoming almond trees. Throughout his life, Bram turned his creative mind and gifted hands to building everything from sailboats and custom furniture, to clocks and artistic wooden bowls. He was especially proud of his landscape photography and he also loved soccer. He spent many years as an AYSO volunteer, where he coached winning teams and served on the regional board as Field Director. Bram is survived by his wife, Maria; daughters Yvonne and Diana; sons Ron and Andre; eight grandchildren Nic, Vanessa, Christian, Andrea, Noah, Anelisa, Gabe and Angie; seven brothers; and five sisters. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home, 1703 Spring St. in Paso Robles, followed by burial at Paso Robles District Cemetery.
