Andrew Blodgett Obituary

Andrew Garrett Blodgett was born in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Andrew D. Blodgett and Joyce E. Blodgett in 1958, and passed unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010. After moving to San Luis Obispo in 1994, he assumed the role of president of Waller Genetics, a flower-seed company in Guadalupe, Calif. He was a co-founder and current board member of Founders Community Bank. Following his entrepreneurial spirit, he was a consultant and pursued various development projects, including an upcoming area vineyard. Andrew was a devoted family man, a special golf caddy for his son, Michael and a tennis mentor for both his daughter, Makenzie and wife, Linda. Andrew is survived by his loving wife, Linda; two children Michael and Makenzie; parents; three brothers and two sisters; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and countless friends. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010, at Mountainbrook Community Church, 1775 Calle Joaquin in San Luis Obispo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/donate.

I am not what made me think of you today. This is definitely not what I thought I would find. I will never forget that smile and that stinky cheese. I always hoped I would get to tell you I had found out that your Grandpa Ryskamp and my Uncle Abe were brothers (he was married my biological Aunt Ila), We would have had a great laugh over that. I know it is late to say but my condolences to the love of your life, Linda and the childran you adored, Michael and Makenzie. I hope they are finding peace and comfort in the memory of your love.

Andy contributed not only his tennis talent to our KVCC tennis program, but he was a central figure in the fun the team had those two years he played. Those were days when tennis players were multisport athletes with a team perspective. Andy was a great team player as you can see from some of his old team members' comments. Although Andy moved and worked far away from his Schoolcraft roots and friends, he was always one of those kind of people that was kept in a special place in your heart and mind. I know he continued to bring smiles to the faces of those he interacted with just like he did in his KVCC playing days. The good do die young, and Andy was certainly one of the good ones. May we all remember him fondly and continue to celebrate his life which he lived fully. Darrell Davies / KVCC tennis coach for Andy.

I was also a teammate of Andy's at KVCC. In fact, our sophomore year we lived together at his grandparents home, not far from the college. We had a great time, and were part of a pretty darn good team. I remember one January blizzard where we were snowed in for a couple days. After cabin fever set in, Andy and I grabbed our crosscountry skis and headed for the Western Michgan campus - where all the parties were. The grocery stores were sold out of the beverages we wanted (they were sold out of just about everything), so we trekked on to campus, found a party or two, and had a great time. Fond memories with my friend and teammate. May he rest in peace.

I was your dad's tennis coach at Kalamazoo Valley Comm. Col. He was a great contribution to that team. If you give me an address, I will be happy to send you some pictures from those two years. I share in your loss. I enjoyed my time with your dad when he played for me.

To the Blodgett family, I knew your Husband, Father growing up while playing tennis, first, as a competitor at Comstock High and then as a teammate at KVCC. I think fondly upon those times and the many smiles and laughter Andy brought to almost every situation. I am shocked that he is gone and now am reflecting on how precious life is and that every day we must live our lives to the fullest. I am greatly saddened by his passing.
God Bless...

Remember many competitive moments on the Village Tennis courts in the mid 1970's as both a partner and a competitor. I'll always remember most your desire to compete in the U.S. Open. God speed... Only the good die young, so Andrew, you're in great hands.

Dear Linda, Makenzie and Mike,

Though my contacts with Andy were few while Mike and Mackenzie attended San Luis Obispo High School, I had great respect for the Blodgett family and I'm terribly sorry for your loss. If children are a reflection of their parents, then Andy was a very good man. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Dear Linda, Makenzie & Michael:
What can anyone say at a time like this that will help ease the terrible pain that each of you are feeling? Nothing, except to say that all of us are here for you.
Only time and time alone will ease your pain but certainly not the wonderfull memories of your husband and your father that will always be with each of you.
May the Lord bless you in this time of sorrow and loss.

Dear Linda, Michael & Makenzie:

Andy was great supporter of Penn golf and always made it a point to spend quality time with the team during our travels. He was truly a great father and no doubt a wonderful husband.

I am forever grateful to have spent many quality moments with him both on and off the golf course. Personally, I will never forget some of the wonderful memories we have enjoyed with your family as a result of coaching Michael. In fact, I would be remiss in not mentioning he was there to see us win a historic Ivy League Championship and make a statement at NCAA Regionals at Arizona State back in '07.

I will also cherish the quality time we spent talking about community banking and the winery project. Not to mention golf!

Lauren and I as well as Ryan & Shane are thinking of you during this difficult time. We love you all very much and share in your loss.

Linda, Michael and Makenzie,

We send our deepest condolences on Andy's passing. Although we had only met Andy a few times, we feel close to your family with the many wonderful times we shared during your family visits to Amelia Island.

We hope the time the family has spent together creating the family collage has provided you with some comfort. Did you find yourself saying, "remember when Dad .... or Dad would say ...." Tears will come with these memories and eventually your heart will begin to heal.

Our prayers are with you.
