August Skye Gaw

August Skye Gaw, of Santa Margarita, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born in August 1980 at his home in Atascadero, the third of five children born to Peter and Cynthia Gaw. August was educated at home for elementary school and then attended North County Christian High School, Atascadero High School and Cuesta College. He graduated from Allan Hancock College Fire Academy in 2002. He was raised in Covenant Presbyterian Church of Atascadero and Paso Robles. August married Sara Marie Inlow in 2007. He had served as a reserve firefighter for the City of Atascadero before he joined the U.S. Army in 2006. He graduated from Fort Benning basic training (first in his platoon), Airborne and then Special Forces Selection at Fort Bragg. He served in Iraq and was awarded a Purple Heart and other awards. Since his discharge from the Army he has been employed at Weatherby Arms as a weapons tester. August loved family life, animals, honor, the wilderness, hunting, ranching, martial arts, living off the land, and he did all of these with all he had. August is survived by his wife, Sara; nine-month-old daughter, Hunter Skye Gaw; parents, Peter and Cynthia Gaw of Boone, N.C.; brother, Forrest Gaw of San Luis Obispo; sisters Brooke Peterson (Eric) of of San Diego; and Bretaye Cole (James) of North Lake Tahoe; brother, Haydn; niece, Olivia; and nephew, Clayton. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents Forrest and Marilyn Johnson; paternal grandmother, Betty Gaw, of Atascadero; mother-in-law, Mary Inlow; father-in-law, Dan Inlow; brother-in-law, Nick Inlow; and sister-in-law, Amy Inlow, all of Los Osos. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church of Templeton, 610 Main St. in Templeton.
