Basil Cuizon Obituary

Basil Cuizon, 85, of Cambria, died on Friday, September 6, 2002 at a San Luis Obispo care facility. A memorial service will be held at the Cambria District Cemetery on 6005 Bridge St., Cambria on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Cuizon was born on March 8, 1917 in Cebu, Philippines Islands. He had lived in Cambria since 1959, when he was assigned there to the 775th Radar Squadron. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1963 after 22 years of decorated service. He spent two years with the Philippine Scouts, then an affiliate of the U.S. Army before joining the U.S. Air Force which became a separate service in 1947. In World War II he was a prisoner of war for two years from 1942 to 1944 . A survivor of the infamous Bataan Death March and fighting with the troops of General Douglas MacArthur and General Jonathan Wainright, Mr. Cuizon earned the Bronze Star, the 13th Medal of his proud career serving the United States. After retirement from the service, he also worked for the Cambria Elementary School District and the Cavalier Inn in San Simeon. He enjoyed watching his beloved L.A. Lakers, boxing, and visiting with family and many friends in Cambria. He also regularly attended Catholic Church in Cambria and Morro Bay. Mr. Cuizon is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia of Cambria, daughter Annie Dzuba and her huband Ron, grandsons Gregory and Patrick Dzuba, of Los Osos, son Edward Cuizon of Point Arena, and son Rudy Cuizon, wife Sharon, and grandaughters Majesta Cuizon of San Francisco & Kathleen Cuizon of Los Osos. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 432, P.O. Box 697, Cambria, CA 93428.
