Betty Louise Mahin
June 22, 1937 - January 19, 2023
Los Osos, California - Betty Louise Mahin passed away on January 19, 2023. Betty was a very positive and encouraging person. She was beloved by her family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. She will be deeply missed.
Betty was born on 6/22/37 in New Jersey to Stephen and Donna Carleton. She grew up in Teaneck and Oradell NJ. She graduated from Brown University in 1959, and attended the University of WA graduate school for her MA in English. Then she taught English Literature at Seattle Pacific University.
Betty married Allan S. Baillie in June 1961. They moved to New Orleans in 1963, Fullerton CA in 1965, Seattle WA in 1968, Spokane WA in 1971, Costa Mesa CA in 1976, Olympia WA in 1977, and finally Los Osos in 1978. During those years Betty & Allan had five wonderful children. She got divorced in 1979 and began working at Wells Fargo Bank, which became Mid-State Bank. She worked there for over 20 years.
Betty got remarried to Lynn D. Mahin in 1981. They took trips across the country to visit friends and relatives. Betty loved swimming, gardening, walking, and spending time with her dogs (Buttons & River). She adored her 10 grandchildren and spoiled them with fun activities at her many special holiday celebrations. She loved cheering on her grandkids at their different sporting events. She also enjoyed attending Baywood Park Community Church.
Betty moved to Georgia in July of 2022 so she could be near her brother, Scott. She died there on January 19, 2023. She is survived by her five children: Karen Calderwood, Donna Langford, Allan Baillie Jr., Stephen Baillie, Alex Baillie; and her 10 grandchildren: Rachel, Andrew, Nellie, Gavin, Haley, Alexander, Allison, Katherine, Rebeccah, and Allan.
A Memorial Service for Betty will be held on Saturday March 25, at 2:00 at the Baywood Park Community Church, 1436 11th Street in Los Osos. Pastor John Tiffin will officiate the service. All who knew her are welcome to attend.
