Bud Palmer Obituary

Bud Palmer Born in Standard, Calif., in 1924, Randall A. "Bud" Palmer was raised in Burbank, Calif., and attended school there, graduating from Burbank High School. He joined the Navy at age 17 and was originally assigned to the U.S.S. California; however he was soon transferred to the U.S.S. Detroit, where he served until the end of World War II. During his service on the Detroit they travelled to the Aleutian Islands, the Pacific Theater and down to South America. They were anchored right next to the U.S.S. Missouri for the signing of the Japanese surrender in 1945. From there Bud travelled with the Detroit through the Panama Canal in November, 1945 to Philadelphia where she was decommissioned. In 1952 Randall married Shirley DeRousse. They lived in the San Fernando Valley for 41 years, and raised their two children there, son Gary E. Palmer and daughter Teri G. (Palmer) Lorence. Much to their sorrow they lost their son Gary in 2010. Bud worked in the commercial knife and saw business as a Factory Representative for 46 years, covering the West Coast States and Arizona. Through the years Bud was a great outdoorsman; thoroughly enjoying hunting, fishing, boating, water skiing and golfing. He and Shirley had a wonderful 62 years together, being active parents and enjoying many activities of their life together. They went outdoor camping from a pup tent, to an umbrella tent, to a family tent, to a camper and eventually to a motor home. It was a sad day when they sold their last motor home a few years ago. Bud was always an active member of his church being sworn in as elder in 1975. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Teri Lorence and son-in-law, Gary Lorence; granddaughters, Jennie Palmer (son Erik); Candice Stephens and her husband Ryan (daughter Natalie and son Tristan); grandson, John Lorence (daughters, Alayna and Valerie); grandson, Jason Lorence and daughter-in-law, Marlene Caetano-Palmer. A Memorial Service is planned for Sunday, December 21, at 2:00pm at the Morro Bay Presbyterian Church on Anchor and Piney road in Morro Bay. The family requests any memorials be made to the Garden House of Morro Bay. Although his time there was short, the staff was wonderful to us all. Sign his guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries

My dear friend Shirley, I was so saddened to hear of Bud's passing. You two had a wonderful life together, raising your children and spending your retirement years on the go in your motorhome. I always admired Bud for attending his Navy reunions for as many years as he was able to travel. He was a true patriot, a loving husband and caring father. God rest his soul and shine his blessings on you. I love you, Shirley!

Dear Shirley and family. Bernie loved you two so much as did I. Wonderful memories of Kruiser outings and time spent at your lovely Los Osos home. I look forward to that time when we shall all be together again. Love you,

Pat

Bud had an active and productive life and leaves a legacy which will be admired by all his friends and family. My one regret is that we were not able to travel to Norway together and visit some family roots..

God bless you, Shirley and family. My live is blessed to have had you and Bud in it...so many memories shared; as neighbors, friends, surrogate 'mother of the bride', and Husky fans! Bud, I'll remember you always and cheer for the Bruins, in your honor (unless they're playing UW)
