Carl Reed Obituary

Carl M. Reed was born in November 1926 and passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at his home. Carl was born in Los Angeles, Calif., and raised in the area. He earned his bachelor of science degree at UCLA and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Carl and Zella were married in October 1948 and raised their family in Whittier, Calif. Carl also operated his own insurance business in Whittier, which flourished for over 40 years. They moved to Cambria in 2002. He loved music and dancing with his wife, boating, waterskiing, hiking, adventuring and traveling the world with his wife and family. He was an active leader in the Sierra Club, Boy Scouts, Intercommunity Child Guidance Center and the SERTOMA service club. Carl was dearly loved and will be missed by his wife of 62 years, Zella; children Diane Reed of Seal Beach, Calif., Connie Reed of Silverton, Ore., Brian Reed of Prescott, Ariz., and Rene Sutherland of Cambria; their families and many others. A memorial Mass will be held at noon Saturday, March 27, 2010, followed by a reception from 1 to 3 p.m. at Santa Rosa Catholic Church in Cambria. All are welcome. Masses for Carl may be offered at Santa Rosa Catholic Church by contacting them at (805) 927-4816.
