Clinton Sutherland Obituary

Clinton Sutherland Just looked at the Obituaries today and saw my name so I guess that means "I kicked the bucket." That is Ok; I have had a great life. I grew up in Waukeena, Calif., during the Depression. I lived through 17 presidents. I managed to graduate from Tulare High School, and learned to drive 20-mule teams from mom, Lizabeth and dad, John. I had a passion for flying so I joined the Army Air Corps, for six years I worked on the World War II bombers. I met my wife, Ruth, while stationed in North Carolina. Following the service we returned to California where I continued to work for Standard Oil (now Chevron) for 36 years, that was when a company took care of their employees and their employees knew how to work. Retirement brought travel all over the U.S. We saw the start of the Alaska Iditarod, fished in Montana, body surfed at Myrtle Beach, the Corn Palace to the Alamo. Met many great folks along the way. I need to thank my caregivers Laure Kim, Dawn and Becky, and I hope I wasn't too big of a problem. I know Ruth would have liked all of you. Thanks to Dr. Spillane and Dr. Galperin, we almost made 100 days, just 59 days short. My wife Ruth preceded me so she can show me the next chapter. I leave my daughter Elain, who I know has everything organized or re-organized by now and her husband Mike. Thursday, October 1, I will be hanging out at the Chapel at Wheeler-Smith Mortuary from 6:00pm to 7:00pm if you would like to stop by. After that I can be found in the right wing of the mausoleum with Ruth and a whole bunch of our friends. Salute the flag and "give me five."

Mr. Sutherland,
Like a few other people here, I didn't know you, but your obituary is one that I will remember. It made me smile + cry and wish that I'd known you if even for a fleeting moment because I'm sure you were the type of person who left a lasting impression. You'll be flying around with angels now!

We never met, Mr. Sutherland, but I love your obituary and on top of that, I have never known anyone from Waukena where my great-grandparents owned a dairy...so who knows, maybe we would have been friends had we met? Condolences to your family and friends, and please tell my Great-Grandparents howdy, and my dad,too... who was born in Tulare. I have a feeling you're the man who can do it!
