Arroyo Grande, California - Clive Grey was a builder.

Born in Germany on January 13, 1951, into challenging circumstances, Clive passed on November 9, 2025 - as far from a post-war orphanage as a man could possibly progress. Clive built homes, music boxes, custom furniture, and objets d'art - all born of an intense creative vision and a contagious optimism that drew an innumerable circle of friends.

Builders are problem solvers, and Clive's ingenuity extended far beyond the tangible. In 2004, he wrote, produced, and starred in his own woodworking show, The Pacific Western Workshop, complete with a studio he built in his backyard. In 2016, he ran for the Senate - not the California State Senate, but the big one, the United States Senate. He attracted enough attention that both major parties took steps to keep him off the stage and off ballot, a fact he carried with considerable pride.

Clive's love of music and singing was woven into everything he did - from serenading with friends, to filling a room with harmony and laughter. His ever-present smile, eruptive laugh, and fondness for chocolate shakes and flavorless Northern European cuisine will be missed by all who knew him. His time here may be over, but he will never truly be gone - because Clive Grey was a builder, and he left the world better than he found it.

Clive didn't want flowers, donations, or a somber gathering. He wanted a Going Away Party - so on Saturday, November 22nd, from 12:00 to 5:00, we'll be doing just that at his home. If you know where it is, you're invited. Food and entertainment will be provided. Bring what you like to drink - maybe a little extra for the crowd - and any photos or videos you'd like displayed on a thumb drive.
