Corkey Johnston Obituary

Corkey Johnston Loved by all who knew him! Born May 21, 1945, in Shawnee, Okla., Corkey (Wayne Francis) Johnston passed away peacefully at home on December 29, 2016. We will miss him dearly, but rejoice in the time we had with him. Corkey moved to Santa Maria in 1959. He was a driver for Coca Cola for approximately 14 years, winning numerous awards as an outstanding driver and salesperson. Corkey was a man of great passion and kindness, his word was always his bond. Corkey considered himself a lucky man to find Love twice, first with Kathy Bailey Johnston, with whom they had two beautiful daughters and then with Melody Denney Johnston and three amazing children. He was a great dad to all five of his children. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jill Fakoury. Corkey will be greatly missed by his wife Melody; daughters Kellie and Kami; sons Joshua and Jerame; daughters-in-law Dorsey and Lyssa; sons-in law Dennis and David; grand- children Peter, Noah, Hailey, James, Sophie Anne, Nick, Casey and Bud; and many nieces and nephews. Corkey's favorite job was at the Paso Robles Golf Course, where he was the head starter. He called it the perfect place to work; he watched the sunrise over the course, the wild life wake up and put up the American flag each day saying a prayer each time. He was a scratch golfer and won many championships at the course. He also helped coach PRHS boy's golf team and was instrumental in bringing the first "tee" program to PRGC. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Heritage Ranch Recreation Barn ~ Nacimiento Lake, Paso Robles RSVP's are appreciated (805) 227-4118 or [email protected] Arrangements under the direction of Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home, Paso Robles, Calif. I didn't know Corkey as well as most but after moving to Paso Robles in 2004 and joining the Men's club, it wasn't long before I came to know Corkey fairly well. A true down to earth guy that said it the way it was. I enjoyed BS'ing and playing with him very, very much. The best times with Corkey was when John Bergin and myself would drive out to the lake, buy a rack of beer, and head over to their place to sit around and BS with him and Melody. Although Melody wouldn't stay too long and would go see a girlfriend. I will think of that man often.

I am very sad to see this in the paper today. What fun memories at the Paso Golf Club and our NAGA golf group with Corkey always heading up the laughs and wearing those white "Muni" socks. Prayers to the whole family.

To start a good round necessity is a genial meeting with the starter. Having played golf now for over 70 years Ifound Corky to be the epitome of friendliness and willing to help. One of my favorite clubs is one that Corky persuaded me to buy. I will always think of him when I use it. My condolences on his passing to his family.
