David Christner Obituary

David M. Christner, 60, of Arroyo Grande passed away Sunday, May 9, 2004, with his wife Cheryl at his side, after a valiant fight with heart disease.

At David's request, no formal services will be held. However, a gathering of friends and relatives will be held in his memory at Avila Beach on the evening of Saturday, May 15, on the beach.

David was born Nov. 8, 1943, in Somerset, Penn., and moved to California as a young adult.

David received a heart transplant in February of 1995 and was given nine wonderful years he wouldn't have had without the transplant.

David will long be remembered for his zest for life and his wonderful sense of humor.

David is survived by his wife of 17 years Cheryl; sister Joan Durst of Somerset; children, Wesley of Hesperia, Gwendolyn Free of Eugene, Ore. and Amy Maligan of La Mirada; 10 grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Michael Cint and wife Christine of Grand Rapids, Minn. and Mycle Brandy and wife Louise of San Clemente; sister-in-law Marsha Golden and husband Alan of Monmouth Junction, N.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his extended family, Warren and Beverlee Schroll of Arroyo Grande, Madge Runyan of Van Nuys; the family of his heart donor, the Kelly Scott family of Visalia; and many wonderful friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the California Organ Donor Network.

Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel of Grover Beach.

Although I have known Cheryl since we were 5 years old, I never met Dave until a high school reunion. What a fun loving guy and always lending a hand with any project! I became known to him as "Reno" and that`s how he refered to me from then on. Cheryl was a blessing in Dave`s life and they shared many special times together. He will be missed.

I remember first meeting Dave at one

of our class reunions. He was so

helpful and friendly even though he

didn't know anyone at the time. He

was very fortunate to have Cheryl in

his life and she was as fortunate to

have him. He will be missed by all.

David was my step father from 1968 - 1976. The gentle giant taught us alot about taking life as it comes, enjoying each day, laughing, and having family ties. I carry many wonderful memories of him, and thank the Lord for his presence in our lives. God be with David.
